  1. Hi all, I have a large number of mods installed, so I know Im quite vulnerable to crashing. Largely its not a problem, but Im trying to start a fresh playthrough and I get a "freeze" type crash when choosing eyes on an argonian. I removed all eye-related mods. I removed all HD skins. I removed all argonian-related mods. Removed racemenu. Tried enhanced character edit. Removed that too. Nothing gets rid of the problem. All other races can have their eyes changed to anything on the list. Freeze-type crash when touching the eye colour slider on an argonian. I can stick with the default eye colur and carry on, no problem. People have no problems selecting argonian eye colour in vanilla right? What could possibly be affecting this? I've tried googling and searching and cant find even related cases!! I really dont want to remove ALL my 270+ mods and start adding them back in 1by1.....but I think it might be causing me CTD's when encountering argonians in the field - if the FaceGen is attempting to select another eye colour and finds whatever problem waiting there...??? I have been working on this mod setup for a very long time and have succesfulyl ironed out most issues. This is one of the only issues left to solve and I cant for the life of me figure out what is causing it - as far as Im concerned my argonians are vanilla! - I'd gladly ditch a mod or two to get rid of the problem, I just need some help finding it Thanks! (I can post a list of my mods, but I doubt it would help much, I have some of everything) **edit** PS: could the UNP body be the cause? BOSS log:
  2. Recently updated to version 1.7706 from version 1.526 and it appears the key bindings returned to their defaults. I would like my middle mouse button to be the control for shouts/powers. When I go into settings -> controls, as soon as I click on any control to change, the game hangs - the mouse freezes in place, I think the audio still goes, but I have to super-F4 out of the program. Anyone else see this? Anybody know if I can change keybindings without going through the menu? Thanks for reading :)
  3. Hi all, and babsik, I am currently still running 1.5, had been waiting for 1.6 to come out of beta so will install that soon. I have almost 200 mods working and it has been a lot of work de-bugging the setup, thats why Im being so cautious about 1.6 I'm not surprised that you have been having probelms, installing mods willy-nilly has gotten me into trouble before. It is unlikely to be the official patches doing this, and unfortunately, probably something you installed. The open cities mod in your list did jump out at me but i think other peeps here have highlighted that. The only thing that I would add is that most of my problems have been caused by mods that add areas to the game (player houses, new quests etc.) so thats where I look first. Also, install mods one-at-a-time!!! And this is the most important: KEEP A BACKUP OF YOUR ENTIRE SKYRIM FOLDER!!! (obviously, a working iteration of it.) Steam once just decided to delete the main executable and backing up would have saved me a lot of work (the re-download forced me into the 1.5 patch when I wasn't ready, had to re-jig my whole mod setup).
  4. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with their mod setup after installing the 1.6 beta update? I have nearly 200 mods installed and will avoid the update if it is going to screw things up - especially as it seems once you do you cannot go back to a previous version. Anybody notice anything yet? I'm hoping that because it is mostly bugfixes that it will leave mods alone. Thanks, Pete
  5. Hey there, I try to play the game as if the character was me, so I make decisions on what to do based on whether or not I personally would do it ie: I dont run around looking for every quest to complete, but my character does need to make a living (Imps more complex needs) and I need loot to survive. So early in the main story arc I find out I am "dragonborn" and am advised to meet the greybeards ASAP. I need to come to terms with this revelation, not to mention build up my loot and level before embarking on such a pilgrimage, so I am doing odd jobs and quests and such, basically playing the game. Can anyone tell me if there are any such other "natural" breaks in the story where I can go about my business for a while? Or is does the rest of the questline have some sort of vital urgency? (given a life or death situation, I would be unlikely to say, go and look for some random's lost heirloom or whatever and would complete the story). I have plenty of extra gameplay installed in the way of mods etc but dont want to wipe out the mian story arc too early. Hope that makes sense, Cheers, Pete
  6. ***UPDATE*** The issue resolved itself, I did play around with the things mentioned above a little, but for the life of me I don't know what I changed that fixed it, but the settings are saving now.
  7. Thanks I'll try it. Steam is an unpredictable beast, the only reason I updated to 1.5 was because the main exe, TESV.exe, somehow dissappeared, deleted apparently. I was advised by the internet to try "verify integrity of game cache" to try and fix that. I also have an app called "skyrim unplugged" which stops steam from updating skyrim (which i had to disable in order to fix the above problem). Some other suggested causes of my new problem (with the non-saving settings) have been the inability of steam to connect to "THE CLOUD" but I don't think I re-enabled skyrim unplugged so I don't know why that would be a problem. The absolute first thing I am going to do when I get home is manually backup EVERYTHING as I have heard that steam cloud can also arbitrarily decide to delete savegames as well. Sometime I think the world is becoming TOO conected, when everything depends on an outside connection and resources beyond your control, resources optimised to deal with a million customers or more, it usually end up being inconvenient for the individual... Anyhoo, thanks for the advice, i will try to jigger it later on and post results.
  8. Hi Guys, Heres my problem, after I have patched from 1.4.27 to 1.5.26 I have a new problem. Whenever i start the game i ALWAYS get the messages "checking your video hardware" and "video set to medium" Not sure if that is the exact wording, but you get the picture. EVERY time now I have to set the particular options that I want, this goes for other settings too such as cursor sensitivity. Its a small problem really, but annoying. Notes: My Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini are in exactly the same place that they were before patching (when everything was hunky-dory). Neither the files nor the relevant folders are set to read-only. I have tried deleting out Skyrimprefs.ini and having the game re-generate, problem recurs. Anybody have any ideas? How does skyrim remember the settings? Why does it always think it is being run for the first time? Cheers guys, I know you can help! Pete
  9. Any chance we could get an icon or something on the various lists of mod that stands for *MOD FINISHED*, it is starting to jar having all my mods updated constantly during gameplay. Call it a beta, get feedback from the comments and once you are happy with it SIGN IT OFF. Having versions 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.4.1, 1.41.3dBETA, 1.5 etc etc is starting to make me think that you dont even know what you want the mod to do. Even if people disagree with how it works in the comments, grow some balls and stick to your guns. Sorry [/rant] I'm probably really frustrated because afyter many, many hours of modding, now my TESV.exe has dissappeared for no reason and after googling the reason apparently it is just "something that happens" so now I HAVE to update to 1.5+ and just accept all the mods that it will break X(
  10. A possible issue is with crimson tide and bleed effects, I have come across several strange issues associated with blood/bleeding mods. Try removing bleed effects and see what happens. I would also recommend seeing what happens if you remove all of the mods that add areas or objects, such as quests or dungeons as I identified quite a few of those that were causing problems for me (In fact it was impossible for me to load a game with the no mercy esp active). You havn't extended the amount of "ugrids" to load at all have you? That's all I've got, hope it helps :)
  11. **UPDATE - RESOLVED** Firts off, thanks to all for reading my fascinatingly long essay :) and extra to those who replied. I'll start by filling in a few details, as I have met with some success and who knows what tiny piece of evidence might help some poor soul in a similar situation. I have a stable set up now, complete with 139 mods including Jaysus Swords, Tytanis, Wars in Skyrim, Deadly Dragons, The lorecraft packages, a whole bunch of HD textures (water, rocks, armours and weapons), Imps more complex needs, some sound replacers (including the Sounds of Skyrim sets) and a whole bunch more stuff besides. So it does seem that 2GB is sufficient to do a fair bit, and wasn't causing my problems nor was the sheer number of mods. I didnt whack all 139 in at once, I have also attempted to install about 20-30 others which I cant have due to incompatibility. I did sort of drip-feed them whilst playing between helgen and riverwood, this was, as most of you know, you can track problems down quickly. This is largely why I was confused by my problems as it seemed to happen out of the blue...except it didn't, as far as I can remember, it WAS after dumping in a whole bunch of mods together (hence the poll - I get too excited about new mods!) After several grueling sessions of mod removal and replacement to track down the source of the errors I found this: CTD before the main menu is caused by conflicting mods in your list. CTD in the loading screen is also caused by this. Mods that added areas or structures (like quests or homes etc) often caused me errors and crashes - possibly due to mods adding structures/areas in the same position? I do still have quite a few quests and things installed, but I had to reject a fair few. CTD when opening the map also caused by these conflicting quest mods (I searched through the forums and the only explanation i found were rougue skyrim.ini lines - so if you are doing the same thing CTD ON OPENING MAP CRASH BUG. And again, these mods seemed to also be responsible for the weird things happening in helgen like the strange empty barracks and Hadvars pathfinding woes. My errors were not caused by corrupted savegames. So I guess at the end of it all, my advice would be - in the case of weird or unpredictable errors, look to your quest mods! PS: I do not yet intend to install the 1.5 patch, I have a stable setup now and I'm not sure what the cost/benefit ratio will be like, what with it borking mods left right and centre (replacing EpicDualWielding with AzarelHrafin's "The Dance of Death might just convince me ;) Anybody think I should get the 1.5 patch? Lastly, I have attached my mod list (I got it from BOSS, I dont think its in the order in which they load).
  12. I just made my first post explaining my problem ("New and unexpected errors, cant find cause, request help") During my game screwing up I did notice that there were odd items named in another language. Have a read of my post, see if you can see anything we have in common, I do actally have quite a few of the same mods as you. Did you update to WarsInSkyrim 4.4? I did shortly before things started to go wrong.
  13. PPS: I have also added some things to skyrim.ini but in the course of trying to fix the problems, I have removed what i added. Could this have caused corruption somewhere? Can you corrupt savegames so that they cannot be fixed even if all mods are removed? PPPS: After the corrupted helgen keep and a re-load (resulting in everything looking fine but a broken legionaire and enemies that dont fight) the iron swords that are lying around are named in another language - "Spada di ferro" I think. No idea how that happened. Thanks
  14. So i have barely started playing, I have been modding the hell out of it so that I can get it all done before I start playing properly. i have about 140 mods installed - I did have some problems with stability, but I identified the offending mods and eventually ended up with a list that let the game start up succesfully and was able to do a dungeon or two with NO PROBLEMS. So i was all good to go. So before I start playing (for reals this time) I start to tinker with the customisation options in "Realistic lighting" and by the time I have done this to my satisfaction, a few of my mods were updated. And whilst I updated them I addded one or two more mods for good measure - nothing too complicated, a new texture, some more sounds. Then I sit down all ready to waste a good percentage of my life fighting dragons and such. I'm in helgen, following...halvor? alvin? ...whoever the imperial legionaire is... I enter the keep where he will cut me free... And the room is missing most of the lights, most of the object (chests, bottles etc) and the door at the other side leads to...nowhere (just empty sky in all directions - weird). I re-load the autosave and the room is complete again, everything is there. As I follow the legionaire he gets stuck in a corridor and won't go any further. I go down the hall on my own and find some enemies to fight who just sit there and watch as legionaire charges in and hacks them to death. Legionaire then returns to where he was stuck and stays there. I have tried removing mods - sometimes just the suspicious ones and sometimes a whole load of them. i did manage to get a stable, working game going, after removing a particular bunch of mods but after adding mods back piecemeal, the effect came back and I am unable to repeat the earlier success. I think my only option here is to start a clean, unmodded game, find somewhere quiet to save and start adding mods one by one and see if I can find a stable setup. What i actually need to do is STOP MODDING but obviously that isn't an option ;) What I think may be possible causes: I installed wrye bash, had a fiddle with it (I didnt actually do anything in it, only pressed "check mergable" or whatever to see what a bashed patch would do) then uninstalled it - does wrye mess with the game at all? I messed up the plugin load order (I am suspicious as to whether or not BOSS does anything, how can I confirm this? And does the NMM have BOSS functionality now or what?) Too many mods? I'm under the hard limit, is this memory dependant? (I have 2gb) I have had trouble with mods that add structures or areas, is it possible i have a conflict with this type of mod? Wars in Skyrim was recently updated and has a new faction or two in it - fiddling with factions is the only thing i can imagine causing enemies to be non-aggressive as detailed above. Thanks for reading, I know its a long post, I greatly appreciate ANY feedback! Pete PS: I can quickly provide further details if necessary.
  15. i am having a problem involving non-aggressive enemies, I'll tell my tale just in case it sheds some light: So i have barely started playing, I have been modding the hell out of it so that I can get it all done before I start playing properly. i have about 140 mods installed - I did have some problems with stability, but I identified the offending mods and eventually ended up with a list that let the game start up succesfully.
