This is a step by step guide on how to get a mod into oblivion. Step 1 Find the mod you want. step 2 download it and save it to a random place. step 3 open it and extract all the files in this manor_ _ click extract all files_ _ go down and click on computer_ _ if you have vista click c:/Hp_ _ Then click program files_ _ then click bethesda softworks then oblivion then data and click extract. next open oblivion and click on data files (right under play) if you did it all right you should now see the name of the mod. either double click it or check the box next to you. now you can play your mod. NOTE: This guide is ONLY for .zip files NOT for .rar or .7z files. :thanks:

The problem with this is that you are trying to extract an archive directly into Oblivion's Data folder on Vista.

It is a known problem that Vista has extra "security" on the "C:\Program Files" folder that can interfere with the extract of archives under this folder. You might get the readme and .esp plugin but it might refuse to extract any of the Meshes or Textures sub-folders...thus leading up to the yellow exclamation marks.

With Vista, it is recommended to extract the mod archive to a temporary location and then copy the contents to Oblivion's Data folder if you have it installed under C:\Program Files.

The primary recommendation is to not install Oblivion to the default folder and instead install it somewhere such as C:\Oblivion or D:\Oblivion to avoid the whole "security" issue.

This issue has already been documented on the Oblivion Mods FAQ
