Altering a companion's appearance

Hello!

I'm just altering a standard companion, Veronica.

I check

FalloutNV.ESM

Lings.ESM

I located Veronica in the NPC list.

I altered her hair-color, hairstyle and inventory.

I hit save. I create an ESP. I load it.

But she shows up unaltered.

I am using Nexus Mod Manager (FOMM just won't work on this computer), but I've unchecked my old Veronica stuff before launching the game.

Thoughts?

The feedback doesn't have to be the most accurate someone has ever said. I'm just wondering...

Should I have saved Veronica differently, or does it sound like there's an issue with the load order?

Is everything I did entirely incorrect?

Just give me an idea or two please :)

Well thanks for the suggestion!

Yesterday, I had a bit of a clutter going on.. I had Nexus Mod running in the background. I tried to open and close my ESP-file in GECK while running it in the background like a boss. Of course that just made things a lot more messy and complicated.

So I no longer do that. And it actually lead me closer to my real issue.

Veronica's hair gets altered, but not to a Ling's hair-type. So when I go in-game.. Fallout gives her a normal haircut.

So.. How do I make the Lings haircut show up in-game without it reverting to a normal haircut? Ideas?

The following should work.

Fire up the GECK and make sure both FalloutNV.ems and Lings.esm are checked.

Set your mod as the active file.

Find Veronica and open her properties.

Click on the "Head Parts" tab and select a hair.

Save.

Done.

But that is my issue. After doing so, I load the mod up.

Veronica's face is altered to my liking, but her hair shows up as a vanilla haircut.

I tried other people's lings mods, and the same thing happens to their mod too.

That's bizarre, is it loading last to ensure nothing else is putting her back to normal? If you could zip up the esp, put it on mediafire or something and PM the link then I can see what happens with it in my game, they way we'll know if the game or the esp.

Very odd, I'm getting the same thing, the new hair is showing the GECK but not in game. As a test I created a new hair, added it to her race and then changed her hair to that new one.

and it worked.

The game seems to be ignoring the esm. I guess the easiest way around it is to do the hair for Cass as I've done here.

I think I know what my problem was..

In my folders

Meshes\characters\hair\

Textures\characters\hair\

None of the lings files are there.

Lings was only installed through my nexus mod manager. I didn't manually extract them to their appropiate locations, thus the game had a problem locating the files for Lings customized characters.

I'm going to toy around some more and just make sure I'm correct about that. In any case, I can now create a customized haircut for Cass if it still doesn't work.

Thanks a lot for bouncing ideas with me, Jim. :) I couldn't have done it without your help.
