Player Sandboxing

Like how your companion or other NPCs will randomly walk about and interact with the environment. I was wondering if there's a mod out there or even a console command to make the player character do the same.

are you talking about idle animations?

because I'm pretty sure you don't want the game to randomly take control away from you while your character is interacting with something......

maybe I still don't understand , as I've never heard of such things for the player unless it's idle animations or an activatable

TziporaHalevi , that's an interesting question.

Do you mean 'being able to switch between PlayerCharacter and other characters?"

or "Player Character 'Autopilot" ?

There's been a few approaches to it in FO4;

Kesabelus got fairly far with a variant which allowed you to switch between Nate and Nora. That was separate to and additional to their

"Nate/Nora revive" project.

so, that'd switch out for a specific idle mode variant.

There's then "Regulators of the Commonwealth", which,

v2.3.7 was looking at enabling you to switch from your Player Character to 1 of the 6 from the posse.

this mod allowed your Posse version "clone you" to play idle animations and voiceover etc.

Regulators of the Commonwealth is one of the best mods for "Sandbox" stuff,

it lets you RPG as "The Extraordinary Wastelanders of the Commonwealth Mystery-League" if you wish.

as to autopilot,

indeed, you can with the Power Armor AI autopilot companions.

the commands which apply to the NPC AI Power Armors can be applied to your power armor whilst worn.

that then will take you to different points in the settlement and cause your character to make remarks etc.

It won't play idle animations like smoking etc though.

but they will go around the settlement and say "Hi how are you?" etc.

In theory, you could learn from the Power Armor AI mod,

and find a way to apply that to the Player Character directly alongside the "3rd person situation camera"

as perhaps a "Hold T to enter 'idle" mode,

for those occassions you want to wait a short time,

but, don't want to use the 'sleep' menu or pipboy wait command?

That's actually what I was looking for. It's been awhile but if memory serves correct there was a mod that did this for New Vegas. It was a bit wonky but it was pretty cool to see my character randomly pull out a bottle or cig while roaming with the camera.

Sorry for the confusion. I think I confused myself to be honest typing the request. Been awhile since I've dove into mods ^_^;;

That's actually pretty cool! Even if it's just power armor for now. Thanks for the advice!

No trouble at all, Tzipora.

I'm hoping the folks who are working on Regulators of the Commonwealth,

will at some point find a way to make the Player-Character NPC'able,

so as they can then do the 'idle animations' as a routine. though, so as you see them interact with the other NPC's

such as Strumpets & Gigolos, Regulators of the Wasteland, etc.

so, you can dismiss your PlayerCharacterAvatar, and see them interact with your other companions etc.

This becomes extremely awesome

when one considers the advancements in Massive Parallel/Concurrence processing,

and stuff like "AGI-GamesMaster, Talking Heads Returns", etc.

so, ie, NaturalLanguageProcessing and AGI-chatbots for the talkingheads sidegame event...

I'm impressed by the FO4VR/Memristor folks progress on that front.

Part of the difficulty stems from

"mobile Companion/Settlements",

and New Lands when dismissing stuff on say, the MemoryDenVirtualHolodeck etc or while in a new-lands...

that has stumped a lot of folks for a while
