Every time i start up my character it works for about 20 seconds then crashes saying the message of the title.

Solutions tried;

-deleted oblivion file in my games, did not work

-started a new a character IT WORKED, BUT i dont want to start a new character

-dumbed down the graphics, did not work

I have several mods installed, not a hefty amount and all the dlc(im using the deluxe edition)

The mods are

-Mercantile Leveling fix

-toggleable quantity prompt

-minimap - reboot

-hud status bars(skyrim)

-sounds of cyrodil

-cm partners basic

-wayshrine map markers

-lighter repair hammers

-bandits and marauders will fight creatures and goblins

-camos better arena armor

-improved trees and flora 2

-immersive weapons

-capes and cloaks

-myths and legends weapons 2

-low poly grass (not sure why_

-quest award leveller

-improved signs

I also have the unofficial patch for the game, shivering isles unofficial patch, and the dlc unofficial patch. I have obse and menuque also. Any thought on the problem, like which mods are known for this sort of thing, etc.?

Edit: If this helps, when it crashes, the game goes black followed by a sort of tab out, then it says "oblivion has stopped working", offers to close program, and then it wont let me close the program and won't show the program. Before it crashes it also skips a few frames before crashing, which may indicate graphical issues? idk

More Edit: I disabled and reenabled Cm companions mod. This seems to have fixed the crashing, not sure if its permanent. Only problem I have now is when i exit the game, as in hit exit from the in game menu, it hits me with an "oblivion has stopped working" prompt. And only way I can avoid that is by tabbing out and manually closing oblivion.

Funny how similar to "my" last problems this sounds. And the solution you found is similar, too. :ermm:

My later savegames were also crashing after a short amount of time, though each after a different, like if at a certain point in game time something'd happen which'd kill the game. The older the savegame, the more time I'd have before it crashes, but it will crash no matter what.

Turned out, disabling all companion mods I were previously using fixed it for me, too. However, the reason, or explanation, as to why is still unknown.

But regarding your "has stopped working" error message when exiting the game, that's a rather well-known issue of a modded Oblivion install. It cannot "close" correctly anymore in most cases known.

There's fixes for that though. FastExit was doing a fine job for a long time, but I've read of it no longer being necessary, if you're already using a properly configured Oblivion Stutter Remover anyways.

It'd anyways be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the "Stability Mods" mentioned in the 1st point of this list here: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47591

Not saying you'll need them all, but read what they do and then decide for yourself.
