GenkiM
I'm new to modding (never used the Nexus before) and was recommended this install list: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23556 It says it's the most complete, performance friendly and endorsed for Fallout 4. The thing is I've fallen at the first hurdle because the Nexus Mod Manager linked to on that page is out of date. I ran a search and it seem it can't connect to the server because of a change from HTTP to HTTPS ? Is that list out of date now? Or should I just install 0.65.9 and continue on with the rest of the list?
gromulos
I personally would NEVER use someone elses pre-made list, there are all sorts of problems that can arise from doing so If you want to learn how to mod, put the time in and invest in your OWN fun, shortcuts are for lazy people and always lead to problems my guide - https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3886575-fallout-4-beginners-guide/ Gopher's guide

I just had this list recommended to me. But you think it'll cause problems and conflicts to install that list of mods? I thought it would make the game more stable and look better with a lot of quality of life improvements, but not so? gromulos
Ok here's the thing, you're new to modding, which means you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, and more importantly, what those mods will do in YOUR game The BEST advice i can give you is to play the game in "vanilla" for a few hours, get a feel for what YOU want in your game Once you've done that you can browse the mods and pick and choose what YOU want, IE tailor the game to your likes and dislikes, not someone else's creating a load order that YOU like is very much like setting down at a drafting table and designing a building. At the ground floor you have the vanilla game, as you add mods you are adding layers or levels to that building. Make a list of what YOU think needs to be improved in your game, what to add in, what to change, and what to Overhaul then search for those type of mods Edited August 17, 2018 by gromulos

gromulos
btw just install the 65.9 NMM or use the new Vortex, it's replacement ( although Vortex is not good for beginners in my opinion )

Are there any mods you'd particularly recommend?

I'm thinking of re-starting on Survival difficulty so I'm looking mainly for quality of life stuff to start with but will probably end up installing more. Can I install most of these without invalidating my save or is it a case of having to start over when I install new mods?
gromulos
if you're going to play survival mode let me get you a mod or 2 that will greatly help 1) https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17445 2) https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16810 3) https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17496 Can I install most of these without invalidating my save or is it a case of having to start over when I install new mods? Installing a mod into any play through is fine as long as you rebuild the bashed patch each time a mod is added ( or a bunch of mods ), BUT, YOU NEVER REMOVE A MOD UNLESS YOU ARE STARTING A NEW CHARACTER, if you do it will break everyone of your saves every time Edited August 17, 2018 by gromulos
