gromulos
over writing saves is a bad idea IMO if you have something go wrong with a save, then you have absolutely no idea when it started AND you won't be able to recover from a problem as easily, you could potentially lose hours or even days of game play
Wejjoo
Okay, so what is the best way to save? Right now I have 3 saves and I overwrite the oldest one of those 3. After about 10 overwrites on each save I erase them and create 3 new
gromulos
I make a hard manual save each and every time, what that means is i go into the game options menu and save each time, no quick saves, no autosaves EVER, and i keep a archive of 25 saves minimum
Wejjoo
Okay, thanks for your answers :)How bad is it to download updates to mods or new mods in the middle of a playthrough? I saw that Racemenu just got an update and I also realised that for some reason the textures for my frost atronach was bugged or missing so I was considering downloading the Rustic Daedra mod to fix thisThanks
gromulos
adding mods is fine as long as you rebuild the bashed patch each time, if you ever remove a mod, make a new character removing just ONE mod will break every single one of your saves
Wejjoo
Hmm, okay. I removed one mod in the beginning of my playthrough because it messed up the crosshair. After saving I checked Wrye Bash and the save was purple, which it still is. Should I start over?If I add more mods, I guess I should use LOOT first and then rebuild the bashed patch as you said? Can I generally go by if the save is purple in Wrye, I'm good to go? Are there any other ways to check for save corruption? Thanks :)
gromulos
no don't start over, if the save was purple, that means you got lucky, for some reason that mod was not built into the save if you look at a save, on the right Wrye will list EVERY mod that save uses
Wejjoo
Okay, thank you so much for all your help, I really appreciate it.I'm going to download a couple of mods now and use LOOT, rebuild the patch and then check Wrye again.I downloaded something called resaver that could clean saves that have loose scripts, do you know anything about that? Wejjoo
I downloaded the mods, used LOOT and then rebuilt the patch. The old saves are orange, but if I load one of them and save, the new save becomes purple. Am I good to go?
gromulos
yes but ONLY with that new save, that's normal because you changed the load order resaver = don't use, i never will, and it's the lazy way to fix your save, plus I've heard from different people that it breaks your save more times than fixes it I just reinstalled Fallout 4 and used a save with 53 mods attached to it to change it from red back to purple, loaded up no problem first time  Edited August 24, 2018 by gromulos
