Deleted54170User
I would like to know if any of your crashes occur after a similar amount of play time, example: for 30 minutes 'after every time you start up'? Then I go and find NVAC: New Vegas Anti-Crash addition to the NVSE tool. The NVAC even has a fomod to easily install it with Fallout: New Vegas FOMM-FORK. Now all I have to do is go play the game again to see if it solves the screen freeze and other crashes.
dubiousintent
The "Topology" network protocols are only used by Microsoft's Net Map app and only work on a LAN (not the Internet). I described the function of each of those protocols in the "Troubleshooting" guide 'Issue' I added and linked in response to your earlier post. Do you have "New Vegas Stutter Remover" (NVSR) installed? If so, please see the 'Issue: CTD after 10-20 minutes of play (post-Win10 2017 FCU)' and 'Issue: CTD without warning, "Out of Memory error", or stops responding after the Main Menu' entries in the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.* If you are suddenly having a "slowdown" or lag; or a lack of sound; or problems getting NVSE to load, or really anything new unexpectedly, please see the 'Issue: NVSE - fails to load after update KB4058043 to Win10 FCU (v1709)' entry in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. This may be due to an on-going series of Windows Updates for the "Meltdown and Spectre Vulnerabilities".* Related to the NVSR problem, for problems AFTER a save game is loaded see also "Issue: Incomplete save game load" in the "Troubleshooting" guide.-Dubious-
Deleted54170User
The "Topology" network protocols are only used by Microsoft's Net Map app and only work on a LAN (not the Internet). I described the function of each of those protocols in the "Troubleshooting" guide 'Issue' I added and linked in response to your earlier post. -Dubious-I saw that about the "Topology". The readouts I got from dslreports.com; when both are On are still showing me that the Download is higher then the Upload and slower speeds when they are On then when they are Off. Off (unticked) the Download isn't always faster then the Upload. Sometimes the Upload is higher, but seldom lower then the download results. I do not have any other devices that are networked like LAN gaming set ups for several devices. When On (ticked) the highest speeds I got yesterday were 9.xx Mb DL and 6.xx Mb UL. When Off (unticked) the highest speeds I got were 13.xx DL and 13.xx UL. Each speedtest dslreports.com confirms the speeds are faster when they are Off (unticked). Not Understandable, just that they are is a mystery. I have 4G LTE service and when I get a good signal I usually see 30 Mb DL and 12 Mb UL at peak times. For some reason the ISP service is getting slowed; as though I have one of those Unlimited plans with high speeds until a certain amount of Gigabytes gets used. My ISP is supposed to have my speeds locked to get no lower then 20 Mb DL and 12 Mb UL. I suspected the CTD's, pix freeze, or game freezing up, was due to sudden drops if the ISP speeds between my computer and the STEAM server occurred. With the forest fires all month and the rain just recently I suspected the airwaves were bustling with a lot more then the normal online activity. Somehow I find it difficult to imagine the ISP's mobile FCC channels with 4G LTE service getting bogged down. But people get more agitated when their lives are threatened by forest fires smoke, and fires near to people more so, so more people are mobile too and online talking and chatting. NVAC has removed my suspicious nature. After installing the NVAC; the last of the bundle I listed above, I have not had a single crash, pix freeze, or CTD. The NVAC I found after following many of the links I have seen and the ones you've provided ( Thank You! ) have made it possible for all the settings to be set to Ultra High for the video card, Depth of Field, Transparency Sampling both are On too now in the game settings. Thanks again for your page links and information. Dubious. Best Regards, Pagafyr
Deleted54170User
NVAC worked fine while STEAM was connected to the Internet. Pix freeze occurred while STEAM was set to play offline.
dubiousintent
NVAC worked fine while STEAM was connected to the Internet. Pix freeze occurred while STEAM was set to play offline.I play offline with NVAC all the time. I've never seen anyone say it only worked when online. I would look for another cause, such as the 'Issue: CTD after 10-20 minutes of play (post-Win10 2017 FCU)' and 'Issue: CTD without warning, "Out of Memory error", or stops responding after the Main Menu' entries in the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. Anytime the game "Crashes to the Desktop" (CTD) it's typically going to generate an error message in the Windows Eventlog. Please see the "Windows Error Messages" section of the wiki "How to read most Bethesda game error logs" article. PS: A "freeze" is essentially the same thing as a CTD, but the system is so badly "lost" it can't continue with the normal error processing. -Dubious-
Deleted54170User
Don't ask me why?! I do know that after I uninstalled the NVAC fomod, curiosity made me do it, and played F:NV with STEAM in the Play Offline mode, I didn't have any trouble playing the game with STEAM in the offline mode. Weird! Just weird. I have completed playing F:NV's DLC "Old World Blues". FINALLY!
Deleted54170User
I found the reason everything started crashing. NVAC was not the cause. The problems was with the CPU. I found the solution. Fixes for crashingOpen up the fallout.ini file in: Documents\My Games\Fallout New Vegas: Find the line: bUseThreadedAI=0 Change it to: bUseThreadedAI=1 Add another line after it and insert: iNumHWThreads=2This will prevent the game from using more than two cores. Multi-cores cause crashes in the Gamebyro Engine. If the game still crashes change to: iNumHWThreads=1 I opened up the SteamLibrary\Steamapps\Common\Fallout New Vegas\ I left mouse button double clicked on Fallout_default.ini . In the list under General; I added < iNumHWThreads=2 > that setting is for a CPU without quad core. I have a CPU with with quad cores which has 8 threads so I decided to use 4. Deleted54170User
And finally I played for 4 hours before the obvious occurred (that I just didn't think was possible with the Dell XPS 8900 with it i7-6700 Intel 3.6 MHz CPU). The stress on the computer... Anybody got an ice pack for the poor computer? Yup! It actually began getting screen freeze, and because I shut it down and restarted it several times it took less and less time for it to do the same. It even got sound card hiccups. I shut the computer down for the night. Early this morning I turned it back on. The computer began working again, perfectly. I set all iNumHWThreads to 4. While playing with 4 set, while playing the Lonesome Road I saw water shooting out of huge pipes, I saw sand flying through the air that could strip the paint off a car, I saw explosions from atomic warheads that made strained my eyes, and I saw parts of bodies flying through the air like someone shot the creature with a high power rifle using hollow points. I was having so much FUN! I just worked the poor cooling fans to their limit. I need a none moisture making freezer for my CPU and RAM chips! dubiousintent
Try blowing an external fan on the laptop to help improve air circulation to draw away the heat. Prop it up so the air can get under it as well. Overheating has always been the bane of laptops. People have gotten burns from holding them on their laps; hence "laptop cooling pads". -Dubious-
Deleted54170User
No CTD, no blacked out screen, no pix freeze, no computer lock up, and all I did before I restarted the machine was jam the tip of a can of highly compressed air into the heat sink fins under the fans CPU. In fact, it didn't overheat all the time after that in the slightest. Darn Dust!
