Stryder180
I've always been a long time fan of the nexus and all of its work, and have always been an appreciative supporter of all mods, with no problems. However, recently my Skyrim has been experiencing strange crashes. These happen only in very specific instances: When entering the Dawnstar Sanctuary, when approaching Jorgen's house in Morthal, and finally when entering the River Estuary in the Moonpaths to Elsweyr mod. These crashes started to occur directly subsequent to my updating and installing a host of mods. While I am not absolutely positive, I am pretty sure this has to do with my newly installed mods. I will list my mods and version of SKSE, and humbly request help on the issue. Mods I had prior to crashes I did not update:Bandolier - Bags and Pouches V 1.0Categorized Favorites Menu V 0.1.14Cloaks of Skyrim dot9 V 0.9Dwarven Mechanical Equipment V 1.1bEevee the magical fox V 1.1Improved Telekinesis V 1.1Leveling Perks Original V (no version number)Midas Magic V 0.08SkyUI V 2.2Sleeping Tree Sanctuary V 1.1Tytanis V 1.02Way of the Monk Unarmed Overhaul V 1.21Weapons of the Third Era V 1.3Wearable Lanterns V 1.1 Mods that I updated prior to crashes (with current version numbers):Apocalypse Spell Package V 1.10Deadly Dragons V 4.5.0Flyable Dragon Races REVAMPED V 2.5.10Levelers Tower V 2.2The Dance of Death V 2.3.2Winter is Coming - Cloaks V 2.0Moonpaths to Elsweyr V 8.95 (Nexus Mod Manager said the mod only went up to 8.92) Mods that I installed prior to crashes:Covereyes - Eyes 1 V 1.0Coverkhajiits - Male Version V 1.0Coverkhajiits - Female Version V 1.0Long-Hair for female Khajiits V 3Nicer-Looking Khajiit V 1.1Vashira the Crimson Flash Khajiit partner V 1.0FWolf Follower Okami Shiranui V 2.0 Yeah, I went crazy on Khajiit mods. My version of SKSE is, as the folder says, 1_04_15 which is supposedly the current stable build. I have no idea what version my Skyrim is. Notes: Coverkhajiit both Male and Female version are technically the same mod, as they conflict with each other when you install them using NMM. However, I've already tried running the game with one, both, and none of them. I think it is interesting to mention that I had them installed without NMM using the instructions of copy and pasting textures into the correct directory, and it worked fine. It was only recently I decided to re-install using NMM in order to make it more organized and official for me. Another thing that started happening that is definitely noteworthy is that in ALL caves in Skyrim, there are some parts of the cave that are just plain missing, allowing me to see into the entirety of the skybox, as if i had no-clipped through the walls. This causes most caves to be un-explorable. One last interesting thing to note is that since install, even when my Skyrim worked fine and didnt crash, SkyUI has complained that it either could not find SKSE, or that SKSE or Skyrim were not up to date. Despite this warning message, SkyUI worked amazingly. I've already tried re-installing SKSE and removing all of the mods that I had installed, but you cant revert mods back to previous versions. I've also tried installing the beta version of SKSE that is out. The strange thing is, I can go about my usual business in Skyrim, but whenever I get close to completing a quest, the game will crash in a random place that I need to get to in order to continue questing. I hope that you modding gods on the forums can help me, as Skyrim is still by far my favorite distraction, especially with Summer Vacation coming up. Even if you cant find a solution, thank you for reviewing my case. If you do find a solution, please let me know on this topic, and I'll be happy to provide information on my Skyrim, and my mods. Georgiegril
Are you on the latest Skyrim patch or the Beta?Have you run your mods through BOSS to optimize load order, and did you hand place the mods BOSS didn't recognize? Maybe you did this and I just misread. Are you adding mods one at at time, and then playing the game to check that it is working well? The more mods you have, the more likely there will be conflicts, and so the more important this step is, even when updating files. Stryder180
I am adding mods one at a time, but i havent utilized BOSS yet. I plan on doing this later on tonight, and i'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for your support thus far. Also, would Wyre-Bash help solve my problem? Georgiegril
No more than BOSS, for what you need. You can always check both out and see which you prefer. Load order is critical, though, and it is pretty near impossible to avoid mod conflicts unless you use sorting software, like BOSS. Reloading your mods without optimizing their load order is extremely likely to simply end up with the same result as what you are dealing with, or perhaps some new but equally troublesome problem. This thread might be useful to you:Nexus site: Load order and You
Stryder180
After utilizing BOSS, my Skyrim still crashes in all of the aforementioned spots. I will continue to look for more spots while playing, and will never stop looking for a solution. Thanks for the help, and if you have any more suggestions I would be forever grateful to hear them. MadWizard25
Do these crashes only occur in the worldspace, as in outside/ in the wilderness? If so then it is most likely a corrupted spawn or cell. In my experience its usually around wolves. I would recommend uninstalling Deadly Dragons, Flyable Dragons, Wolf Follower Okami because these either modify spawns or wolves, as well as Wearable Lanterns because I have read it can cause CTDs. Furthermore if you have installing, or uninstalling mods on the same savegame you may have corrupted your savegame, which is relatively easy to do since they are fragile. You can follow the instructions here to clean your savegame and hopefully un-corrupt it. http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Troubleshooting#tab=Mods_and_Savegames Edited June 7, 2012 by MadWizard25
Stryder180
I've uninstalled all of the mods that you say might cause corrupted spawns or cells, and have followed the linked instructions in order to attempt to cleanse my save. However, I still crash at all of these instances places, the most important of which is the Dawnstar Sanctuary, which I'd really like to access. I've also discovered that I crash upon entering the Ratway Vaults under Riften. I dont know if there are any correlation between these locations. I'll keep troubleshooting all of my mods, and will let you know if I discover anything else. Also, if its no bother, please keep the suggestions coming! I'm happy to try anything to get my Skyrim working again.
Stryder180
Oh, sorry for double post, but there are a couple things I'd like to mention: The Moonpaths to Elsweyr mod gave me a bit of trouble right before I started getting these crashes. When I attempted to update it, it didnt uninstall correctly and remained in my modlist on NMM. I tried to uninstall it once again, at which point I did not receive any recognizable errors. Upon reinstalling it, however, I noticed that the version number NMM said I was currently running Exceeded the current mod version stated both on the mod's nexus page, and in NMM. Also, usually when I run SKSE launcher, a steam message will pop up saying that my game's files are not synced with the Steam cloud, but it doesnt offer any further explanation. The only options to select are play (which does nothing and runs the game) and exit (which does nothing and does not run the game). I do not know if these details help, but I will try my best to keep you updated.
Georgiegril
Have you tried to verify your cache files through Steam? Your incomplete removal of moonpath may have left scripts or left you with missing files. This might be fixed by a cache verification. To avoid in the future read the author's readme before installing or uninstallung any mod, and follow the instructions exactly. Are all of your mods loaded through NMM or do you have steam workshop mods? Also, if you made a backup to your game files through steam, restoring that might solve the problem. Or it might not. If you really want to fix this problem for certain, then you could remove all mods, uninstall the game through steam including the Delete Local Content option, manually look through your files to be sure to remove all skyrim folders, including savegames and data files, then reload through steam, verify cache, play through to the exit of the cave, then start adding mods exactly according to the mod authors instruction 1 at a time, running Boss for proper load order and playing a bit after each addition to be sure it is working.,
Stryder180
I know that if this gets too out of hand, that is the only way I can see fixing it for sure; doing a complete reboot of Skyrim. I do have some steam workshop mods as well as Nexus mods, and I figured that might have something to do with something else, though I wasnt sure what. I install mods to the maker's specific instructions, and I also only add them one at a time and play for a bit to make sure they are working. How can I verify my cache files through steam, and how would I get rid of those extra Moonpath files that may be dwindling out there somewhere? I cant seem to find the specific uninstall instruction for Moonpath.
