Unsure. It seems a little hard to imagine it could actually be a permanent effect. More likely it will be a relatively temporary effect.

Perhaps merely to facilitate an easier way to wipe out the dawnguard?

Then again, it does apparently have something to do with the Elder Scrolls. Can't imagine they'd go through all the trouble of finding a bunch of Elder Scrolls if it's just a temporary effect.

Hasn't TES pulled this stunt before? Everybody both gets and does not get the Powerful Artifact; the results of each party using the Powerful Artifact both did and did not happen; there is a Dragon Break, and the next TES game is full of new lore books with the authors wondering what happened. It looks like a new Warp in the West may be headed our way. :)

Well, maybe it will fail either you join the vampires or fight against them. Maybe the scroll will have side effects and will fail to block the sun permenetly. Only time will tell xD I play as a vampire in skyrim and will try both factions as a vampire, I don´t wish the sun being blocked because it takes that special thing about not going outside during the day XD Edited June 8, 2012 by scot

My guess is that what you see in the trailer will be in the game. Blocking the sun with some sort of dark magic could be possible for a limited time.
