leot486
Finally got around to buying NV, and before I even start playing I want to mod the hell out of it. I know fallout NV has a hardcore mode, which adds to realism, which I am looking to make more real. Being I don't know what the "hardcore" mode that comes with the game has other then I believe the need to eat sleep and drink, I was hoping there were mods out there that made damage more realistic, as in a round of .45 ACP is going to stop any normal grown man in his tracks, and possibly kill him (unless a mutant of course). Realistic lighting would also be nice, and maybe better res textures. And anything else anyone recommends. Thanks.
TrickyVein
I think primarily you should look for mods that overhaul the graphics: imagespace modifiers and climate/weather mods like Western Skies or Nevada Skies, Fellout, and others. There's no reason why an engine like Gamebryo, as old as it is, has to look like is was handled by a bunch of inexperienced people with no sense of color contrast or other basics of level design. If you have the hardware for them, there are texture-packs out there, but I don't see any reason to overburden my system with higher resolution textures that don't actually look that decent (when they're all put together) using an already unstable game-engine. Then get Project Nevada. It allows you modify how much damage the player takes as well as how much he/she deals to enemy combatants, the effects of SPECIAL on derived player-statistics like carry-weight and AP and other things. It also is lore-friendly. Because NPCs have to be a special kind of stupid in order to be in a game made by Bethesda/Obsidian, some AI-overhaul mods should be recommended as well. 'Enhanced enemy-AI tactics' could be one, but I'll have to check. Basically, if you browse through the different categories of mods by ordering them according to 'endorsements' or 'downloads' you're bound to find quality stuff. The most essential mods that make the largest changes are going to be under 'gameplay effects and changes.' Because let's face it: New Vegas needs a LOT of help to be playable. Happy hunting!!! Quetzlsacatanango
http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/37424 I like this one for combat difficulty. Long story short, it assumes a .22 headshot should kill an unarmored human being and takes it from there.
