tristerfalm
So, as you can tell from the screenshots, the graphics go a little crazy sometimes, but its only when looking at things from certain specific camera angles, otherwise its fine. Problem is, it comes up very frequently. Has anyone else seen this problem before and maybe know what might be causing it? http://i.imgur.com/lWAJv.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/B32n5.jpg
Georgiegril
It looks like artifacting. What graphics card are you using? What skyrim settings (low-med-high-ultra, AA,AF, etc. slider settings, fade, FXAA, etc) Any changes to your prefs ini or mods that affect graphics? bben46
I saw this in Oblivion, just before my Graphics card died. :facepalm:Check to be sure your card is not overheating, that the fans are working and that the air channels on the card are not clogged with dust. tristerfalm
I'm using a GeForce GTX 550 ti, running settings on ultra, max distance, FXAA, I had adjusted some settings in the .ini to fix the shadow flickering problem (I don't remember which settings, I googled it). I'm using Realistic Lighting, and Super ENB-rl. EDIT: Oh, I'm also using the beta patch 1.6, and am updating my drivers right now (I didn't have the driver released May 22). I don't know if its that, but we shall see I guess. Edited June 9, 2012 by tristerfalm
Georgiegril
What you are seeing is caused by serious driver overload, which may lead to their demise (as in the case of BBen  ) It may or may not be that you have done permanent damage. Have you noted the GPU temperature? Overheating can kill your card.To try to prevent having to get a new card, lower all of your settings. Remove FXAA and lower your sliders. Also remove reflectivity on water for all except sky.Shadows are handled in Skyrim by the CPU--except, I believe if you are using ENB, which moves them to the GPU, further stressing your cards resources. I would recommend removing that as well, at least for now. Once you have it running normally, you can try adding things back 1 at a time. Every time you play with your card demonstrating these errors, you are increasing the chance of doing irreversible damage. Download and use a program like CPU-z (or NVidia's System Monitor) and make sure you are running below maximum temp during Skyrim, and that you are not overloading your cards GPU.You have 1024 VRAM, yes? Your should be capable of playing skyrim smoothly, but likely not at ultra with all of the extras.
tristerfalm
Would too much strain by itself damage the card, or do you mean too much strain causes overheating which damages the card? Because I checked the GPU temp when running Skyrim and it was running at 56C, which according to google seems fairly normal. Also I haven't had framerate or lag issues. How will I know, putting things back 1 at a time, when is good to stay and not put anything else on?
Georgiegril
Well that is good, your card not overheating. Yeah, overheating is the most immediate threat to a card. If you are cool, overloading your card generally just causes crappy visuals or performance hits. If you look at your percent GPU in CPU-Z or your NVIDIA monitor, you can tell when you are running at max. You can also tell it's too much if your problem returns. Artifacting like you have, the weird blue on the water like you have, but also vertical lines through the screen, tearing, anything that looks like a graphics problem just dial it back.Removing ENB will place the shadows back to you CPU, which should take off a lot of the stress. If you haven't already, take a look at NVIdia's skyrim tweak guide: it goes over the settings and exactly how they affect your card, also NVidia specific changes and .ini tweeaks. 20 pages that will make you much happier with your game, I bet. tristerfalm
Hmm, I disabled all mods, turned off the ENB, reset the .ini's, lowered all graphics settings to Lowest settings, minimum sliders, unchecked FXAA ,etc. and the problem still persists....still seeing the artifact things, in the same exact places as before. Georgiegril
Well I hope it is not that your card is dying.... Seems crazy but dust can do weird things...Have you tried blowing your computer out?Uninstalling (not just disabling) all texture mods? Also a weird question, but does your .ini display the proper card? (i.e. your GTX 550?)Verifying game cache through steam? Did you update your card to the latest drivers, as you had mentioned? Georgiegril
I got curious and so I googled... the NVida forums mention problems with your card if running less than 450W power source. What is your voltage? You might try reading or posting here (NVidia 550 forum)Nvidia 550 forumhe problem appears to be your card, and there are a lot more people with experience with your card there.
