How do I edit NPCs faces?

I'm trying to figure out how I can change a couple of NPCs appearances from the CM Partners mod like for example the Redguard females all have pale skin or others have wide faces. I tried using the CS but I don't really know how to use it well. I opened up CM Partners.esp and selected the person I want from NPC > [Race] > [Gender]. Then I change their look(which crashes half the time) and when I'm done, I can't even save over the same .esp file.

 

I spent a few hours on this and I'm about to give up and stick with my weirdos. I'd figured I could ask here and maybe get a few tips on how to do it.

Do you try to edit a plugin or a master file?

 

I f you try to edit a plugin you need to set it as an active file.

 

If it's a master you need to save yoru changes on a plugin.
