TheFourthHorse
I was fussing around with msconfig to find what start up program was slowing down my log in and noticed this for the first time. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer, as described on AMD's website, helps to prevent video performance effects and incorrect timing effects that applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized. So my question is as follows: Is the program necessarily or even harmful to Quad-Core systems? My guess is that this is helpful to all multi-core systems and not just dual-core but I thought I'd ask you helpful folks anyway. (BTW I know this wasn't what was causing my slow log in, it's just how I came to find it)
Illiad86
It's not really necessary to get that program. I never used it in my old dual-core AMD setup at all. It probably wouldn't work on a quad core system, but I'm not entirely sure. I never use those programs that they offer. Half the time they just wind up being a RAM/processor hog. Ihoe
On Vista and Windows 7 it isn't needed, as it is built in to Windows. It probably came with a game you recently installed.
TheFourthHorse
Sound's good, thanks guys. I'll just take it off of the start up programs list...
