Free Model!

I didn't say your model was from TurboSquid, i implied it looked like one you would find there, as in it would fit in on TurboSquid and others would find it and use it if they like it thus others would use your model. And TurboSquid has free models, i know because some of them are mine.

And wow 1 person expressed interest and nobody else is an indication that nobody is interested and the thread died.

Seriously I am sorry you cannot take suggestions and I gave you some to help you for future model sharing. I didn't think what I suggested was so offensive.

I never said your advice was offensive, nor did I really start the odd debate that occured over me asking where you found that information.

I also http://www.mediafire.com/?29lmjyovbchi36e. This is the obj.

I told you I appreciated the advice and took what I wanted to take from it. How does this mean I was offended?

Your response to my suggestions was less than amicable and looked like you were attacking a troll. I was indeed giving advice and not trolling or attacking you in anyway. So that said i have some advice again and its about UVW mapping and adding a texture. As a modeler you need to be able to UVW map your model even if you suck at photoshop. there are millions of free to use textures that you can slap onto the model and then UVW map to get the edges correct. Do not attach each part of the model until you are ready to make a final texture for it, use the free textures to get the UVW correct. Once they are all correct and have a texture do a render so it shows the whole thing with some lighting and all the textures. the whole model can be 1 million parts or just 1, what matters is getting it UVW mapped and a render.

To make a final UVW in 3ds max you use UVW unwrap on each part and move the UVW out of the center box for each part. then you attach them all into 1 model and UVW unwrap again to put them all back in the middle box with scaling and rotating to get all the parts to fit and so they do not overlap or cover each other. i am sure there are similar steps in blender I dont know i never used Blender. There are many other ways to do it but thats my preferred method so i control what goes where. Find a method that works best for you.

If you did not UVW map it Do not merge it all into 1 model. let the user do that. Infact do not merge unless it is multiple duplicated parts that will be UVW wrapped exactly the same and in the same spot on the final UVW. Rivets or hinges come to mind.

As for why you should UVW and do a render? it is an amateur modeler who does a screenshot of a model from the edit window. The model looks like dog turds in a gift basket when presented that way. A rendered image with textures and bad lighting catches a persons attention far better than grey on grey with gizmos. catches more attention means more will want to use it.

I'm not trying to advertise the model, im trying to give it out. I noticed from my download page that this has been downloaded, and I would guess the majority of people who downloaded it did so from this forum. So I bumped it and asked that if someone downloaded/used the model, they would post here. I frankly do not care what you think of my "crap picture" as I uploaded it for someone at request. I do know how map the U.V. points, but the whole reason that I did this was because I was moving on to another project and didn't have the time nor desire to put hours and hours of work into this, and with my slow computer, that's what rendering would be.

Frankly, if I really wanted this in game, I would do it because if I put the work in, I could. But I don't care very much if this is in game or not, however, someone else might want to, so I posted my work here to make this easier for anyone who wanted to do this.

Calm down! I never said anything about your picture being crap. it was purely a comparison on the differences between rendered with a texture and without for presentation purposes and getting attention for it. I am sorry If you felt it was personally directed at you, And i pity the next person that tries to give you advice. goodbye and have fun.

I don't know, it's hard to support someone who doesn't cake............

=P Yeah I really don't care if you cake or not. Thanks for the interest, good luck with your modding!

And jet, you obviously aren't understanding at all what I am saying, and instead seem to take everything as an insult/affront to what you are saying. Sorry if I seem that way to you, but i'm frankly just speaking my opinion with no malice or spite intended.
