Ghoulz
I racked up a lot of junk on custom esps(races/NPCs/armor) that I don't make use of. Will it cause a CTD or issues if I remove these unused IDs with TES4Edit?
Lanceor
So basically, you created a lot of custom items in your esps? It would be best to delete them using the Construction Set. TES4Edit can be used if you know precisely what to remove, but as it has no error checking, it's far easier to make an unfixable mistake. In either case, make a backup that you can roll back to. :)
Ghoulz
I never figured out how to delete IDs in the CS. They would only be marked with * and still remain.
dubiousintent
The '*' means they are marked/flagged for deletion. They don't actually get removed until you save the ESP file, when they simply do not get rewritten. Save and reload and you will see they are gone. -Dubious-
Nephenee13
In either case, make a backup that you can roll back to. :) Conveniently, TES4Edit does this step for you

Lanceor
Ah, are you referring to Identical to Master records? In other words, the stats of the item are exactly the same as vanilla, but the CS flags them as being edited? To remove them with TES4Edit: Load the esp and wait for it to finish loading.Right-click on the esp in the left hand pane.Click "Apply Filter".In the Filter options box, uncheck everything except "Conflict status inherited by parent" at the bottom centre.Click Filter, wait for it to finish filtering.Right-click on the esp in the left hand pane.Click 'Remove "Identical to Master" records'(While you're there, you may as well also click 'Undelete and Disable References')Close the application. It should prompt you to save. If that isn't it, maybe upload a copy of your esp to a file host and point out to us what exactly it is that you're seeing that refuses to stay deleted. Ghoulz
Guess I'll back them up and... fidget... Got rid of the Xenius Race Compilation esp/esm a long time ago and they're still showing up in my custom esp. You have no idea how long it takes to scroll through all that on the race menu, on not a great CPU.
Lanceor
Do you mean that your esp is dependent on other mods and won't load without the other mods present? Or does your esp use assets that were packaged with other mods? And when you say "get rid of", what exactly did you do? Did you delete the esp and all its meshes and textures, or just delete the esp? Ghoulz
The esp I edited for no reason became dependent and used X-race content. I just removed the dependency/esp/esm, and the content in the custom esp is still there. It loads fine. Not sure if it likes if the unused junk is removed from the custom esp.
