BSA crash issues

I have been trying to fix my skyrim install for a week or two, and have had no luck. I have a good amount of mods, but I've tried disabling, re-enabling and doing everything I can think of and this problem still happens.

When I run process monitor and start from exit of helgan cave, I walk down the path towards riverwood and have yet to reach it without a crash. The vast majority seem to happen either just past the stone where Hagvard (or w/e the imperial one is called) hides from aludan or around the guardian stones. Only once have I made it past that and then I got about 1/2 way to riverwood and froze.

Process monitor has showed that the last things messed with before the process blows up (thread exits, windows stuff and process exit) are always one of the included BSAs. (Animations.bsa, Meshes.bsa etc.) It normally isn't the same one twice in a row, but always one of those. The .nifs loaded always change, although fxwaterfallbodytall.nif was there almost every time until I uninstalled WATER.

I have tried standard bug fixes like the 16 bit sound, disabling AA and low shadow quality to be sure of faster performance, and FPS is around 40 with ENB, Mostly Ultra settings and stuff.

I really want to play and this sucks quite a bit. Any help would be much appreiciated and I can provide any info you would ask for. I also will offer my first born son and all my internets for a week month to the man who can help. I would offer my soul but I don't have one.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried manually deleting the BSA archives then 'Verify integrity of game cache' through Steam to re-download them? If you believe that's the problem then it's worth a shot.

Personally I've found problems like this to be with mod conflicts so assuming you have some installed disable them and re-enable until you find the problematic one.

Well, I deleted the BSAs and re-installed them, and it helped a bit. Still messed up a bit. Then I re-added WATER thinking it wasn't broken and it broke again. Then I uninstalled it and it was still broken. Re-downloaded the BSAs again and it was a bit better. Ended up deleting everything.

Now I've re-installed the game, and used fresh downloads for everything and it's all good.I've made sure to install them one at a time and test by running from the helgen cave exit to riverwood, and going to the trader and avalor's house. I have no idea what got FUBARed, but it did.

I really appreciate the help man, thanks a ton. Kudos are given.

Just glad to have helped.

Although WATER is awesome I've also had problems with it, its a shame that you didn't have a way around disabling it completely though. Perhaps as Bethesda patch Skyrim and if WATER gets full on support again you will be able to use it. For now the task seems to be getting Skyrim stable and keeping it like that, we'll worry about the mods we like later on
