rickythecat
Now that wasn't very nice.It was, however, hysterically funny, in the same way as sending the new soldier to go fetch "a bucket of propwash," or some chemlight batteries, or a few hundred meters of flightline...If I remember correctly, Bluff (as a skill) is from Neverwinter Nights, and Conversion comes from Diablo II? Yeah, his second batch of advice was legit.Haha, sharp eyes! Right on both counts. Also, thank you for not reacting like this:Rickythecat: On the contrary buddy I know exactly what I am talking about. Ive been playing this game since the day it came out and before that I played both Daggerfall and Morrowind. I just dont think that he should take so much advice from others on his characters before having tried the game. It is much more fun learining these things the hard way. I for one find that a nerfed character makes for a much more interesting play than one that is tailored exactly to fit the race you are playing. After all not all Altmer are Wizards just because they get a bonus from it. I personally find that the single most important choice you have to make is the race of your character. You have to like the way he looks otherwise you are gonna bore yourself to death with a character you dont really like. The class you choose should suit your style of play rather the just being an optimisation of skills. So if you really are the fighter kind of guy and chose a khajiit because you really like these furballs then you shouldnt force yourself to take a stealth class just because this is where the Khajiit would excel because it would make the game easier at lower levels. The lower levels count for nothing in this game. It only really gets fun when you cross the 20 lvl line (I find at least) and it is so much sweeter to get there if you know you had to work for it with your nerfed character instead of just having your cake and eating it.While I'm sure we're all quite impressed with your great fortitude and independent spirit, you may have noticed that I retracted most of what I said a few posts ago. That is to say, y'know, that... this wasn't entirely relevant anymore? Still, I do agree on your points about "nerfed" characters. Personally, I don't believe in them. I always say that people should play to their own strengths, rather than those assigned by the game. Well, I don't always say that, because that phrase is really only useful in a few, very specific situations, and it would be strange to just sound off about gaming philosophy at the dinner table, but you get what I mean. Tallhat
rickythecat: I may have come of somewhat more harshly than was intended in my post and for that I apologise. But I do not like to be told that I am wrong simply because one person does not agree with my views. Gods know there are plenty of ignorant fools out there in the world who do just that and Ive met more than I care to. But I hope there are no hard feelings between us. As I said I may have overreacted a bit.
rickythecat
Haha, of course there are no hard feelings! It was just a misunderstanding, no big deal. Besides, I ended up agreeing with you anyway. =P
Michlo
Welcome aboard and good luck. I would have to agree with MOST of what has been written here except for that strange Ricky feller, we never listen to him unless he has had his full medication for the day and the straps are tied on his jacket. :) My biggest piece of advice would be this: It is really unwise to level up quickly. Especially if you are a beginner. The mobs (enemies) will level up with you and you can quickly find yourself overwhelmed until you're used to your character. So. Choose major skills that you WON'T be using very often. This way, you can more easily control your slower levelling and take it at your own pace. If you choose a skill you'll be using all the time you'll find yourself level 50 in no time. heh Good luck!

I have an uncle who actually is mentally disturbed. He's a paranoid schizophrenic. He does have to take all of his medication, and he does have to wear a strait jacket. If he doesn't he starts trying to pull out all of his hair. He used to be a great guy, and I still go visit him sometimes, but, y'know... it's never something my family laughs about. So, hey, just... maybe be a bit more careful when you joke about this sort of thing, alright?

Umm, Ricky, I too have this in my family but unlike you, apparently, I've learned not to take things too seriously. Based on your whacky posts, I would have thought the same of you. Ah well, live and learn.
rickythecat
Well, the main difference in our situations is that mine isn't actually real. For the most part, at least. I was just trying to guilt you a bit, just for kicks, but it looks like my plan backfired. Sorry about that. I suppose I'll just have to try harder next time! Anyway, I've got to say, I'm really impressed! You people take things just seriously enough here! In most of the places I've been, I would have been reported a dozen times by now, or at least flamed all to hell. So, in recognition of your great services, I present you, Michlo, with the All-Around-Alright-Guy award, for staying cool in the face of silliness. Congratulations! Wear it with pride. Michlo
Haha, Ricky, thank you. Yes, I've been to those places, too. Not fun. A lot of people use the "anonymity" of the internet to be far crueler, etc. than they'd dare be in person so we have that to contend with but overall, I've not seen that problem here at the Nexus, thankfully. :) Anyway, please continue to be a character, I do like your posts, umm, even when you manage to trick me, ya *censored*. Now where's this reward for me to wear? *looks around* Oh and to the OP, I found this which might be good reading for you. Cheers.
Tallhat
What a very strange turn this topic suddenly took. Oh and OpHawk, when you gotten the hang on this game and its level system you might wanna consider installing Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul. It fixes the horrible everything-in-the-world-is-your-level levelled lists. I find it makes for a much more immersive game.
