accidmav
I have a new rig that just kicks oblivions butt and looks great on my 42 inch panasonic TV. I love it. But now that I can run it really well, I am trying to decide what to add to it to make it even more visually appealing. Is QTP3 the standard? Or should I just go with the QTP3 redimized? I remember hearing at one point on here that the redimized one looked the same and performed better. Right now performance is imepccable, but if they are the same, I might as well go with redimized to keep it efficient. What other high res texture packs do you guys recommend? Is Oblivion Graphic Extender something worth getting to give me a more graphically enjoyable experience? Now that I can handle all of these things, I want opinions on what else to add here. (im looking for graphical enhancements at the moment, but any other suggestions are welcomed as well :armscrossed: ) On an enjoyable side note, since I am used to playing oblivion on a modest computer, I enjoyably started a multiple person fight and ran outside into the wide open and didnt experience any lag or stuttering at 1080p with all the settings cranked. After having the game dip into like the 5 fps range on my old computer in these scenarios, I almost shed a tear of joy. 8)
Lanceor
I went for the Redimized... if your machine is a beast, then your graphics card's processor should have no problems at all, but running out of video RAM IS a a problem. With a 1.5GB GTX 580, I went with the redimized option along with RAEVWD and framerates remained respectable. I also used OBGE but the only option I took was the Liquid Water. That's it for my day to day gaming setup. :)
Rennn
As far as QTP3 goes, I once got a high quality Redimized version without noticing any framerate drop on my 768mb of vram. I'd recommend getting the highest grade of redimized version you can. You'll also definitely want the 3GB patch if you use any texture mods, since Oblivion's default 2GB just isn't enough for many HD textures. One thing that you'll probably want to use along with almost any other texture pack is this mod:http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/18497In some cases, it can even make the lod look a little better than Skyrim's. I also really like Amp's cave textures. I installed them last, and I let them overwrite my old cave textures. I haven't found any problems so far, so this would probably work as long as you installed them after QTP3 or whatever you use.http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/34175 Koldorn makes great sewer textures of a similar quality:http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/9080 Natural Faces makes characters' faces much less full of artifacts, which is good. It'll work with most body mods as well, provided you install it after the body mod and let it overwrite a few textures. OBGE is always good as well. I use sunrays and liquid water for it, though my cpu chokes when I start to add ambient occlusion to Oblivion. Open Cities is another good mod, though it's costly in terms of performance. This stutter remover will probably help, since Oblivion starts to stutter before the framerate actually gets too low.http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/23208 As one last thing, if you decide not to install Qarl's textures, there's also this:http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/38204I personally prefer this over Qarl's textures, though they don't look as good up close. If you'd like some images of what OBGE, Liquid Water, and Really Textured Normal Maps can do, here are some of my screens.http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/images/117653http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/images/117654http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/images/117655http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/images/117656http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/images/117657 Edited June 13, 2012 by Rennn
