Aurilius
I CTD every 20-30 seconds as I approached Riften. Once in Riften I had to save before I enetered any door in case the game crashed again (about 50% of the doors resulted in a CTD). My character has reached level 66 and I had created several legendary Daedric weapons for him. I just left Riften and noticed that my Daedric Bow went from a damage of 230 to 156. My other weapons also dropped in damage. Also, I met a coureir outside Riften who gave me a note for a quest that i had completed hundreds of hours ago. Another thing that I noticed is that the number of spiders and trolls near Riften has gone back to my level 1-5 days. They appear to be everywhere. My question is: Has anyone experienced this? Is it a result of a MOD misfire? Is it a recognized glitch in the game? The troubling part is the reduction in damage of my weapons.
imperistan
New patches tend to screw up games when it comes to Beth. Particularly if you use a lot of mods.
Aurilius
I have paired my mods down to 22 that have had no effect. I had added a new mod - Tomb of Garok - and the game crashed while loading. I removed it but I started to have the frequent crashes.
landy8
Never had problems in Riften, but I've noticed that some mods that add some new locations tend to cause crashes. I've installed a pair of mods with custom player homes, and the game began to CTD, when my character was in Solitude. So my advice is: try to disable all location adding mods. If it doesn't help, try to disable other mods one by one.
Brandy1123
The problem with mods is this. Just removing them (even by normal and suggested means), does not repair or put back any data in the files they may have used. So, just removing or de-selecting a mod will not always make it where it doesn't interfere with your game play and load. Mods over write data files and does place them in a pre-modded state when they are removed. Sometimes, the corruption or data written is just to a point where you need to reload. I always have been telling people from about day 2. back-up your data folder. then on a bad mod, you just copy it back in and you save yourself a lot of headache, mod troubleshooting and ultimate reloading all your game is to you. If caused by a forced update, most modders try and update their gifts to us, check back regularly and see if they have a patch or update you can put in place. sometimes they post a work around temporarily. Sorry about the loss, most of us have been there and know your dispair. :( Edited June 14, 2012 by Brandy_123
flobalob
IMHO backing up your data folder is a bit excesive, but I would recomend creating a manual save PRIOR to using any new mod unless you are willing to create a new game character if it turns out to cause problems. The reason for many CTD's is (I suspect) a mod changing some piece of data that you already have in your savegame, I even noticed it with my own mod Statics2Containers that creates containerised versions of all of the crates (because you already have references to things that my mod modifies, i.e crates in Helgen). P.S. sorry for the shameless plug ;D Edited June 15, 2012 by flobalob
