Wierd hybrid motherboard RAM use?

Recommended Posts

Hello I happen to have ownership of a weird as hell motherboard which has 4 DDR2 slots and 2 DDR3 slots. I am using 2x2gb of DDR2 ram currently, now my question is, can I use the DDR3 slots and put an extra 2x2 ram sticks in it and use it alongside my DDR2 ram or no?

Unfortunately you can't use the DDR2 and DDR3 slots at he same time.

You should check the motherboard user guide for further information. I used to have a motherboard like that and the DDR3 options where not very good, it only supported 4gb DDR3 and was very picky about what brand of RAM.

If you don't have the manual for the motherboard it is probably available on line somewhere. If you know the manufacturer, try their website. If not - google the model number.

But to answer your question - NO. It's an either or situation use either one OR the other type but not both.
