Game Horror Stories

Here's a horror story to make your blood turn to ice. One of my friends borrowed my Morrowind and insists that he gave it back, even though at the time I asked for it I hadn't seen him since giving it to him. So no Morroblivion for me.

Those may be grounds for a black eye!

Just kidding (a swift kick in the butt would do).

Mass Effect was probably the worst time I've ever had trying to get a game to work... took ages to install, then the DRM got all upset because I had alcohol120% on my pc, so I had to spend ages working around that, then it kept crashing every time I tried to run it... uninstalling and reinstalling fixed that, but instead it just crashed in a different way every time I tried to run it :P

Then, a reinstall later, and after a long time scouring the official forums, I discovered that it absolutely refuses to run if you have any of the 17x nvidia graphics card drivers installed - so I had to downgrade to 163.75 for it to work - which I think is over a year old ¬¬

THEN, as if that wasnt enough, every time I ran it, it seemed to hang at a black screen, and I had to restart the entire pc to get out of it... so I tried reinstalling it again. But I'd reached my install limit, so I had to contact EA and get them to let me install it another time. Finally, I was able to, but I still had the same problem. So, I went back to the forums again, spent ages looking for my problem AGAIN. Turns out, its normal for the game to sit at a black screen, apparently crashed, for 2-3 minutes every time you start it up. So I went back, tried leaving it for that long - I'd been ctrl-alt-deleting long before that, in my experience, if something sits on a black screen for over a minute, apparently doing nothing, its almost certainly crashed :P

So, now I can play it. It still crashes every hour or so, but tbh I just cant face the thought of spending another few hours trying to fix that... its really not worth it - it turned out to be a slightly average game after all that effort :P
