Something Mysterious Happened ...

Grrr ... Argghh ... Everything was working great. all the mods were playing together seamlessly. I went to start the game this evening and it Crashed on Load. All by itself. I checked the signature on the TESV.exe file and it indicated 1.6.89. Did Steam automatically download and install something? I am currently completely reloading the game and will now have to laboriously re-install the mods after Steam gets done. Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a better way than a complete re-install? Grrr ..... Argghh .....

BTW The new file signatures are 15:15 PDT (US) this afternoon when I was not even actively playing. Is this the 1.6 patch and did it totally corrupt something?

I just took the time to read through this forum and found lots of other people's issues with the 1.6 update. It looks like I will have to turn on/off mods and see which one Crashes on Load. I'll post here if I find the culprit.

Late Update: After much gnashing, the culprit mod is the MEHrunes Razor instant kill mod from Steam Workshop. I also disabled the Dance of Death for 1.5 mod on advise from this forum. Thanks!

Mate i have the same problem, you will find it is the 1.6 patch that steam has updated automatically to. It's such a joke as to why you cannot opt out of these "voluntary" patches. Not only has it stuffed up the loading of skyrim, now it has decided to not even load at all :/

Not mysterious at all. We have known about this patch for a month. People who have been using the beta version told us what the problems they saw were - and some of the fixes they found. The big change is that Horse combat is now included - this is a feature that people have been begging for since Oblivion.

SKSE has already been patched to work with it - if you had an earlier SKSE beta patch, you may want to get the newest one now.

Dragon Script - is a bit slower with patches.

I have heard that the steam off line mode actually works to block patches now, but haven't tried it.

Back up your game. make copies of the files that will be changed by a new version - the TesV.exe mainly

The updater stucks at 99%. I tried to delete the tesV.exe (moved to desktop) - the updater started, a new tesv.exe is in the skyrim-folder and stopped again (tesV.exe: 16,9MB).

Oh pplease - I want my game back

Playing offline will avoid the Steam updates. My game is still patched to 1.5.26.0.
