Vortex keeps adding 'skyrimse' folder in my mod install folder

Started doing this today after failed update/uninstall/reinstall. Keeps adding a folder called 'skyrimse' into my chosen mod destination folder. If I delete it, another appears after a mod download. Or if I close Vortex, it appears again the next time I open Vortex. Have I missed a setting or is this a bug?

What folder do you mean by "mod destination folder" and what game are you managing?

Vortex will download mods to a directory corresponding to the game it's associated with, which may not be the game you're managing. Say you are currently managing Dragon Age and you download a mod from the Stardew Valley section on Nexus, the download will be put into the "downloads\stardewvalley" directory, not "downloads\dragonage".

In the same way, if you're managing "Skyrim" or "Skyrim VR" and download a mod from the "Skyrim Special Edition" section, the download goes to "downloads\skyrimse" and obviously that directory needs to be created for that.

Thanks for the reply Tannin! Managing Skyrim SE, and have created my own directory for Mods and Downloads (C:/Games/Vortex/Mods/SkyrimSE and C:/Games/Vortex/Downloads/SkyrimSE). Settings for Install Path and Download Path are correctly pointing to the destination folders, but Vortex kept adding an additional skyrimse folder into my Downloads directory (so, C:/Games/Vortex/Downloads/SkyrimSE/skyrimse). Not a big deal really, but my OCD was triggered ;)

I think it's sorted though, as I just deleted one SkyrimSE folder and just let Vortex add its own destination folder in. Seems to be working fine.

Yes, that too is intentional, starting with 0.16 the download directory you configure is global for all games, vortex will create subdirectories for each game.
So if you had switched to fallout 4 you would have found it created C:/Games/Vortex/Downloads/SkyrimSE/fallout4

Imagine what your OCD would have said to that... ;)

Yep, my brain would've imploded
Vortex creating its own subdirectories makes total sense. Thanks for the work you and the rest of the Vortex team have put into this, it's awesome - super easy and intuitive to use. I waited for Vortex and a stable-ish SKSE64 to dive back into Skyrim modding, so far so good!
