nbtc971
I would love to see you guys give the mod developers more control over their description pages. Right now we are greatly limited in what we can do. There are other available bbcodes out there that I would think wouldn't cause security issues with your site. One great addition would be [table]. I'm assuming there is a reason you didn't give us that option, but wow, how much more creative could we be with how our description pages looked with that option. I also wouldn't mind seeing Edited June 13, 2012 by nbtc971
nbtc971
No support for the TABLE bbcode? It would allow mod authors a lot more control (placement control) of their description pages.
Lanceor
The mod description interface is not actually based on this bulletin board - it's custom coded, so to adding new tags is not trivial. Tables in particular have to be coded very carefully as they can completely bork the layout of a website if used incorrectly or maliciously. In other words, it would be a big job. I might also add that HTML tables are deprecated and may not render correctly (or at all) in future browsers. Dark0ne and Axel are currently overhauling the codebase on the site. They've just implemented a "block by tag" feature and their next goals are an overhaul of the moderating system and a system of free advertising for modders - both were in response to users' feedback and will require months of programming. Given the amount of work that is already queued up, I would guess that your idea - as good as it is - sits quite low on the priority list. On analysis - its impact would be minimal given that the vast majority of uploaders do not use any BBCode markup at all in their descriptions. Anyway, that's my guess. It's not the "that's a great idea!" response that maybe you would have liked, but at least you know a possible reason why response to your post has been lukewarm. Well I'm glad someone said something... Actually I do not think the TABLE tag has been deprecated (http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_table.asp), however I am a PHP developer professionally and realize that CSS is a preferred way to place elements, unfortunately that really won't be an option here. Regardless, if TABLE were to be deprecated (or if I am missing the announcement), it will continue to be supported in all major browsers for many, many years to come I would guess. As for the devs being busy, I can completely understand that. I was just hoping for more control over the look of my description page. Oh and btw, converting bbcode to TABLE has already been done, I'm sure you could borrow that code from some place, in fact, here it is, however it doesn't have any checks in it for proper formatting.. http://www.phorum.org/phorum5/read.php?62,144641 Edited June 15, 2012 by nbtc971
