Ok, we all know that Vault co made the vaults to harbor people from the coming nuclear apocalypse. The best and brightest were selected, as well as others to maintain the vault. Men women children. Once the war with China was on, anyone would pay any price to get their families in the vault to save them.

 

We also know that businesses love to make a ton of money. With corruption and bribery it's possible that families, individuals with a lot of money to push paid their way into the vaults. Leaving tons of uncounted cash in the pockets of the Vault executives. Whether or not the the manufacturers of the vaults saw a real apocalypse looming, or just a way to make a ton of money feeding the fears of the people wanting to stay safe.

 

Vaults were build to keep as many people safe as possible. Space was at a premium. The largest portion of the building many people saw what the Common area for generations. Food and bedding were not luxury. They were made to last as long as possible, and meet just the basic requirements to survive. Vaults became overcrowded in the close to 200 years they were inhabited. Most didn't want to leave them, for fear that the outside world would not offer the safety of the vault, so they stayed.

 

With the massive amount of money the vault executives would have from taking bribes, or 'honest' money from the vaults themselves, this brings into a question I would love to see become a reality.

 

What does the vault of the Vaultco president/top owners look like?

 

With nearly all the money from those clamoring to pay their way into a vault you would have a nearly limitless supply of cash to fund your own private vault. A vault with that kind of backing could be built with no expense spared, no need to cram a millionaire and his family into a concrete walled, steel roughshod vault.

Walls of concrete and steel, pipes thundering of water overhead, the rush of stale filtered air, the noisy clamor of dozens of families in the cramped hallways, and the hum of a noisy reactor pump. A Presidents vault would not look like any of these.

Huge lofting areas, well lit with the best lighting and chandeliers. Marble floors, heated of course. Gold trimmed columns to support the roof and priceless artifacts of art from the old world on alabaster pedestals.

A large smoking lounge, with a pool table and refrigerator. A grand elegant dining hall, huge staterooms, bedrooms lined with red velvet. Doctor, and service personnel will be replaced with service bots. The cook in a state of the art kitchen would be the best chef, and his family of course.

A vault for the Owner, president, VP, and their families.

A private valuables vault filled with art, cash, gold, silver, statues. Wealth stored so that when it was acceptable, they would emerge from their underground palace and begin a climb to the top of the world again.

Music, art, books, all the best as the families of the members carry on the vaultco legacy into the future into a no expense spared castle underground.

 

Now imagine, they never made it there. The bombs took everyone by surprise and all that remains now is a legend of the "Master Vault" Loaded with riches beyond all wealth together across the entire wasteland. And you have just found a piece of the puzzle.

Will you pursue the foolish legend?

Or leave the past sealed away?

These are still a small portion of my idea. Imagine an underground museum, a testament of a wealthy individual creating a monument to their fortunes.
