Why does Bethesda still not add nudity in games?

And I have yet to see a reply with a convincing answer as to why the anti nudity people find nudity so disturbing. It seriously worries me that we are teaching people to have hang-ups about something that we all have, a naked body. Kids are growing up with this attitude that nudity is somehow sinful and that only leads to more of a puerile attitude, sniggering in corners at dirty mags and so on.

The answer to this is that you fail to comprehend that the opinions of us, the members of Nexus don't matter.

I'm not telling you that if Bethesda put nudity in the game I would flip out and start calling the media and need to make an appointment with my priest (I don't have one, I don't believe in God).

I'm telling you, the general population is going to raise hell over it and demand an adult only label. And I'm telling you that the general population of parents isn't going to buy their kids a game that has an adult only label on it.

And the reason for that is simple. As others have pointed out in this thread, there are many games out there that have pushed the limits and managed a "mature" rating. Which means for a game to have an adult only rating, parents are going to assume it's pretty darn bad. And that's the educated ones, vs. the ones who will just flat out refuse because it says 18+ without even caring about the why.

By all means, if people do NOT want in game nudity in their game that's fine, but do not go around assuming and even stating that people who do are perverts and sniggering pubescent teenagers. (Female, 51, as it happens.)

You know that response really irks me. And I'm not stating _MY_ opinion as I say this, but it seems a total double standard that you're allowed to sit here and say that we're assuming that people who want nudity in their games are perverts, and at the same time say that people who want nudity in the game aren't perverts and yet if it WAS my opinion that people who wanted it in the game were perverts, I would be modded or banned for saying so.

Who said anything about mods or bans for an opinion in a debate? GinnyFizz has a point, not everyone who wants nudity in a game is a pervert and she never said there are no perverts at all. having the assumption that all are perverts is completely wrong, thats like saying all black males are drug dealers and pimps. It is just flat out wrong and is called stereotyping. And if it irks you to learn that your opinion is completely wrong and sterotyping groups then you have issues beyond the subject at hand.

As for ratings? do those even work? I think rating systems are archaic considering the majority of consumers ignore them because the actual porn is not sold on the same shelves. You see plenty of sex and nudity in movies that are not rated adult only. The same standards should be used for games not some extreme higher porn rating because 1 virtual boob is shown.

If your kid goes "OMG Boobies" then you better make sure the only thing they get to watch is Disney and excluding the 1940 release of Fantasia since there was boobs in it in one scene.

I don't think you understood what I said one bit.

I'm saying that if I started ranting about people who want nudity in their games being a pervert, I would get modded and banned.

I didn't say that was _MY_ personal feelings on the matter.

I meant that it doesn't seem right that someone can use that as their argument FOR having nudity in the game, but we would get reprimanded if we suggested it the other way.

the argument works both ways,

why add Nudity?

why remove Nudity?

That's reversed again. There is no "why add nudity" question, as nudity is not something you "add". Clothes are added, whereas nudity is the default state.

The question is really, "why add perma-underwear?", and there's no real reason.

I'm not saying people should be running around Skyrim naked, that wouldn't make sense in a tundra. I'm saying perma-underwear should not exist.

There's no real reason to have nudity either. Why have nudity? What's the point?

Okay, you have dual-wielding, which lets you wield two weapons, that adds to the gameplay.

You have Dragon Shouts which add various spell effects and shake up gameplay.

There's no point in looking down and seeing your legs in a game. There's no point in having better graphics. There's no point in having music. There's no point in having a higher resolution monitor. There's no point to have story in games. Those things don't affect gameplay at all, so there's obviously no real reason to have them.

See how that works?

Guys, in games like God of War, and Dante's Inferno, there is lotsa nudity, and both ARE rated M and ARE in your common game store. But they have the nudity warning on the back, and anyone who isn't legally of age cannot purchase those games. So, if Bethesda put nudity in their games, it would stop little kids from playing it(mostly), and it would limit the age to those who are actually of age to play it. I don't see anything wrong with nudity in games. But, as others said, some don't like nudity, and it would lower the income for the game. So, leave it to the modders, who can make a better body model for nudity than Bethesda could probably make.

i didnt read the whole topic so excuse me if this has already been discussed but its ridicolous how i transform back from werewolf to human and i have underwear, nuff said, nudity adds immersion, should be there. What about having sex with your wife ? The Witcher 2 comes to mind. Edited by Wraithofdoom

*looks at Skyrim, FO3 and Fallout NV boxes*

M Mature 17+ is an adult only rating. 'Kids' can't buy them, Mommy or Daddy have to. Your point is moot.

'Pushing the limits?' You mean like the homo-erotic references in NV? You mean the drug and alcohol use? The smoking? The dismemberment and blood and gore? If these game were movies these mythological 'kids' you refer to couldn't go to the theater and see them without...you guessed it...Mommy and Daddy going with them. Your assumption that parents won't buy an adult content game and be scared off by the 'adults only' lable is just wrong-guh.

The real word isn't 'no tits or ass' Nexus (kids come here, you know, blah blah blah.) Want an action movie to do well at the box office? Make it Rated R. Wanna see it on Netflix in two months? Make it PG-13.

And if looking at nakedness in real life, on TV, or in game makes me a pervert then I'll accept that moniker with pride an wear your scarlet letter.

I don't know what you're talking about. You're not an adult at age 17 in the united states, which I presume you are with your reference to PG-13.

Mature is not an adult rated game.

Most parents don't closely monitor their kids games. True. But most stores now are more worried about law suits than anything else and it WILL pop up at the register that you must be 18 to purchase this game. At which point, the parent will look at the kid and say just what exactly am I buying?

You believe what you want to believe. We could sit here and talk about the breakdown in the fabric of society and parenting skills all day and we'd still be back where we started.

They're not going to sell more games by adding nudity. They will in fact, sell less games, so there it is.

And if their recent switch to console first developing didn't wake you guys up to the fact that Bethesda is worried about money first and foremost, then I can't do it.

Oh please, I don't think anyone could have missed the consolised UI for Skyrim, or the fact that Beth are so far in hock to M$. Thanks, we don't need convincing of that.

Judging by the number of kids that are playing Skyrim and talking about that fact in various places in RL and on the netz, the parent is obviously just buying it anyway.

Nudity was common all over the world in ancient times. It was a on-issue. Armies went to battle naked. But, I do think that these games should have an General/Adult option choice during initial installment or in the Menu settings.
