Hunter357
Hi, everyone... I was wondering could anyone guide me, or help me edit some meshes in nifscope? cuz i've been sitting all week seeking through net looking for some how to instructions, and even experimenting for my self but just can't get to understand mechanics of this tool... I wanna make some wooden logs to fallout i even have a base model: utilitypolewsplinteredtop...something something, and i just would like to cut the splintered part and make it smooth... but whatever i try to do it effects whole object and not only the crappy part...i would also wish to change its length without changing the diameter of object (so i could make 3 different sizes of that same thing) I would really appreciate any kind of help you could give me... pluramon
What you ask for cannot be done in NifSkope, only with a 3d modelling software. However, you actually can scale the length/width/height of the model, each separately, with NifSkope. Right-click the NiTriStrips branch -> 'Transform' -> 'Scale Vertices'. Hunter357
Fantastic... a lot of time wasted on nothing... so what program should i use? blender? I tried but blender don't see nif files, i tried to import/export meshes through the scope just like it said somewhere on the nexus, but menu commands doesn't match those on my version  ... I honestly lost... i really had few pretty good ideas, but without basics (like those logs) i'm nowhere with this...
pluramon
Despair ye not! There are several patches and plugins you need to install in order to make Blender capable of importing/exporting nif files (those only work with versions no later than 2.49b). Go here, and find everything you need.Only if you are still unable to get it done, I wouldn't mind cutting those splinters for you (it's really no big deal). Hunter357
Hello again... Yep this blender thing sure is twisted, i have no idea how to make it work i downloaded all the stuff that folks advised me to but it still doesn't work. Meanwhile i've been trying to scale some objects in nifskope, but every time i make a change to a mesh, havoc won't follow, and when i finally get it to change it's own scale (so it matches edited mesh) those two objects doesn't align with each other...I just don't get it, why 3d editing must be so complicated... the idea itself seams crudely simple to me... :wallbash:  Well, i would be very grateful for that... although i actually wanted to learn how to do basics like that on my own, lets be honest i had much bigger plans for nearby future... pluramon
I know it's probably the most annoying thing I could possibly say, but don't expect to learn the mysteries of 3d modelling in 3 hours. It took me many, many hours of frustration and head-banging until I finally got things done the way I wanted. But I understand it doesn't have to be this way (I'm just used to doing things the hard way). There are plenty of tutorials available on the net. Start with those. And start simple - mess around a little with some existing model, learn the basics, then search for more in-depth tutorial that cover specific issues. Believe me when I tell you I was no less helpless than you when I first got into it.Anyway, if you tell me which model (nif file) you wish to edit, and be more specific on what you're trying to achieve - I will look into it and see what I can do for you. Hunter357
Hi again...I know what you meant. I also just to learn by my self (for example... construction set, by than i was moding for morrowind... ehh those were the days...), but now i really don't have that much of time to spare, not with job, and family...On another hand, I've been searching web looking for guides, but so far, I got nothing... But, back to the subject... I wanted to make a log cabin... classic, simple just like old western pioneers just to had (i figure in time's like fallout people probably would returned to the old fashion ways, instead of living in old buildings with rubble still in the middle of living rooms - even though war has ended over 200 years back). I wanna use Architecture\Urban\StreetDressing\UtilityPoleWSplinteredTop01.NIF to make most of a structure...Unfortunately because one of the ends is crappy it won't look nice. So this splintered piece must be replaced with the other one...Also because i want to make it "real life" and not an empty shell with teleporting door's to some inner cell, I need them in different sizes (so i can fit windows, doors etc. between those logs).I did some testing and measurements, and on base of them I believe that logs size of 0.10 of (original length), 0.33, 0.75, and 1.00 should be enough to do this, and even lots more... I have few more even more complicated ideas but I think I'll work on them by my one, once i have base of my project done... I you could help me with that i would be unbelievable grateful...
