Katarsi
I had to post this here because I became seriously distressed while browsing the Player homes section. There are 37 pages, I'm at the 9th and I'm already losing my marbles. I don't need a palace, a maze, a dark cavern, a ridiculous armory with 150 mannequins and whatnot, a friggin' Olympic pool, nor a 5-star restaurant kitchen.I have very few needs comparing to insane commodities which are mostly on the menu.As a complete contradiction, all other modded homes actually have less than is normally required. So here I am, asking for something in the middle. Can I? I mean, that's what this part of the Forum is for.I'll list the specifics below. If there is already a home with those specifics, do let me know. Forest surroundings. Please, no snow. Mountainous area is fine, as well as a river or a lake. Waterfalls are pretty, but very loud, and apparently FPS unfriendly.Transparent windows on the house. If there is a place in the game that should be called my home, it has to have functional windows. I don't want my character to live in a house-shaped stuffy box, nor a dark cavern. No amount of gilded artificial light can replace natural illumination from outdoors during the day. During the night, I expect to have a clear view of every part of the interior, regardless of lighting mods.Forge. Smelter, workbench, grindstone, tanning rack. Storage chest for materials. Chopping block in the immediate area would be perfect. It doesn't have to be in the basement, but if it's placed outside, it should at least be under some sort of a roof. I feel uncomfortable crafting stuff while directly exposed to a storm.Alchemy table and Enchanting table next to each other. They are usually mutually dependent, so it's a matter of normal convenience. Separate containers: ingredients, soul gems, jewelry for enchanting.Planting soil stations in the interior. Ideally - an adjacent room to the enchanting area, with a glass roof (a genuine glasshouse, if you would). 6 units is minimal, 12 is awesome.A designated place for all the shrines. Something like a shelf.Bookshelves. I collect books like crazy for some reason. 5 pieces should be enough.A Master Bedroom. One storage chest. No Children's Bedroom. My characters never adopt children, so I don't need it.One room for Followers with 3 beds. 3 storage chests for their stuff.Weapon racks. A few normal ones, a few on the walls. No Mannequins! Those things freak me out - especially when they decide to come to life! I don't care about the mod that fixes this issue; they are creepy and that is that.I'll rather keep my armor in chests; they can be placed either in the Forge or the Master Bedroom. If you are familiar with some visual replacement for Mannequins, I'm all for it.I have nothing against a Gallery for unique items (Dragon Masks, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Claws etc.), but it's not mandatory. Stick that in some corner.A small kitchen. For posterity, and for Follower sandboxing. I hardly ever play on Survival Mode.No clutter. Especially clutter that isn't static. I don't mind decorations, but it Really. Isn't. Necessary.A HUUUGE PLUS: A Merchant who buys everything and is stationed near the house.I don't want cows, hens, goats, not even an apiary. No.A stable is fine, though I don't use a horse much.I don't want a Bathroom, a Sauna, and certainly not a pool. No.âI know that many things which I don't want/need in my Player's house are not immersive, but those are my preferences. In fact, I think my preferences are pretty Spartan, and shouldn't be difficult to build at all. As I stated before - if there actually is a home with/without listed features, please point me in the right direction!
Thenryb
Here is one which has a lot but not all of the features you want. It is old and no longer supported. It has a wall blocking a smelter in the basement which needs to be disabled if you want to use the smelter. I use it in Special Edition, opening it in the CK to convert to Form44. It has all the storage chests you would ever want and automated sorting if you want to use that feature and a small room to display dragon claws and dragon priest masks. There are three mannequins that you could disable if you want. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/16766/?tab=posts
Katarsi
Thank you, it looks neat :smile:Right now I'm giving a try to this home: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/8198I still hadn't reached it in-game, but if it doesn't work out, I'll try your suggestion. I wish I could learn how to create a home by myself...
leonardo2
I wish I could learn how to create a home by myself...You can do just that and I did that over 5 years ago, but unfortuntely RL intervened and I never finished it. Go here to join the modding school at TES Alliance and I promise you it's fun at the same time learning how to mod. :D
thumbincubation
To second what Leonardo says, not only is building your own home the best way to get (and be able to change) exactly what you want, it's also immensely satisfying. Here's a link to the intro Creation Kit tutorial. There's a link to the tutorials hub, where there are more job specific tutorials, also. https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Category:Getting_Started Don't be afraid to make mistakes, or even to scrap the mod and start again. If you prefer video tutorials, there are quite a few available. Darkfox127 makes some very good, easy-to-follow, home building tutorials, and I have used his tutorial on creating HearthFire planters with success, in the past. Elianora has a video on how to create transparencies in walls, to act as windows, but that will require you to build your outdoor scenery around your house, inside its own cell. I've never been very good at that, but you may find that it allows you to create some truly beautiful scenes. As an interior cell, though, you will not be able to see people running around or life happening, through the window. Think of it as looking out over the walls of Whiterun. You see a representation of the world outside, but you're actually in a totally different cell. You could create an in-world home, without an interior cell and without load doors, but then you may have some trouble with bed and container ownership, though a non-respawning container is still non-respawning outdoors. You could also build a living area in a world space, then install a load door to take you to an interior (owned) cell for sleeping, if you prefer that. A few words of caution about Creation Kit. It is buggy and it loves to crash. Save often. There are various threads in the modder's section (below this section on the forum page) about how to help prevent that, including creating a custom .ini and disabling audio (which helps greatly,) and there is now a recent mod release, with pre-made creation kit fixes. I haven't tried that mod yet, but at a minimum, you want to disable audio, for your own sanity. Here's how you do that. Using windows notepad: Create a new .ini file called CreationKitCustom.iniPaste this in it:[Audio]bEnableAudio=0Save it. Make sure you type the .ini after the file name, or it will save as a different type of file and won't work. You're creating custom, rather than adding to the existing .ini, because the custom one won't be affected by any updates or changes made, to the creation kit. This method will prevent a LOT of crashes, but it comes with a price. When you do intend to quit, the quit process will hang and you'll have to either use task manager to kill the process or wait it out, until you get the end program message. Still far less hassle than constant crashing, though. Finally, before you embark on your journey into player home creation, I recommend taking tomorrow off work, stocking your desk area with snacks and drinks, and setting several alarms to remind you to go to the bathroom. Don't be surprised if several days have passed, before you realize it.
Katarsi
Thank you both for the info!Perhaps I'll embark on a journey of mod creation in the Skyrim community - if I find the time and energy for that. It seems like a lot of work  So, in order to have proper windows on the house, the area should obviously be completely new (created) - if I want it to appear natural (and I do). I saw a mod that features a home on a floating cliff...and I was thinking to myself, if this is possible to make, then truly anything is possible. I have a few ideas, although those are much more lore-friendly. For now, I'll stick to exploration.
thumbincubation
Something else to bear in mind...depending on what other mods you use, you may be able to find a house you like, then install your crafting equipment in a spare room. If you use campfire, there are plugins to allow you to create and place forges and workbenches, (the mod itself lets you do alchemy and enchanting in the field) wherever you want them. Solitude Furniture mod allows you to buy and place crafting equipment, containers, and major furnishings, with or without the use of Jaxonz Positioner, which in turn gives you the power to completely redecorate your home, or anywhere in the world, to your liking. You just have to be mindful of navmesh, so you don't place things in the path of NPCs.
