InuyashaFE Posted June 17, 2012 Share Posted June 17, 2012 During my travels, I would often have to fast travel all the way to the blacksmith, grab materials, and use their forge. Now this was fun for a while, and I thought it'd be nice RP wise to bring business to the shopkeeps. But they don't always sell what you want all of the time. Sometimes they're missing Moonstone Ores or Ingots, or some other vital material. So here's my suggestion. You would somehow be able to hire a Courier through the use of a postal box, or postal service, given the choice to order materials in bulk. You can have them come and find you (in case you have a custom house mod) or have it delivered to your doorstep (have it spawn in a chest outside your house.) You would have selections such as Leather, Leather Strips, Ingots, Ores, the like. Perhaps a longer or shorter waiting period depending on the material. This would provide a means for rich players to get as much materials as they need without blacksmiths running out of stock unexpectedly. And as a bonus, it'd make the Couriers more useful! You could have a flat tax for the delivery, or even a tax on each item. It would make sense, considering we have those in the real world as well. I agree, you could have alchemical ingredients and soul gems transported in addition. Though alchemical ingredients may be tricky purely because there are so many different ingredients. Rossum Posted June 17, 2012 Share Posted June 17, 2012 The couriers could act sort of like those people in Fallout 3 or New Vegas who would seek you out and give you random supplies for being so nice. Maybe depending on your karma (or some other aspect that measures how helpful you were to people) the people you help pool money to get you things and the couriers deliver them to you. Then, you can either locate a person who organizes this and say (I'd like it mostly in crafting material, or I'd like it in soul gems, or just healing potions please) or maybe make suggestions to the Courier when they contact you. Like the find you and give you a bunch of ingots and in turn you either say (This is helpful or Maybe next time I could use X). Or it could be a setup with various packages like: 10 iron ore for 30 gold100 arrows for 200 gold or something like that. You go to various mail order merchants or post office boxes and spend the money to have the stuff delivered to you. Since you aren't speaking face-to-face then the speech skill doesn't give you a discount and the price is always static (or it could vary from day to day due to factors). The price doesn't necessarily have to involve taxes on it due to the fact that merchants who supply the stuff get a much more reliable system to sell their wares than waiting for people to come to them. You could probably call it something like "Walk Mart" or "Courierco". Basically a system where you order something and a network of couriers gather the goods and deliver it to you. TheKazz Posted June 17, 2012 Share Posted June 17, 2012 (edited) Anther idea is to go through the warehouses in either Solitude or Windhelm and do a medium length quest line for one of the trade companies like the East Empire Trade Company. At the end of the quest line you will be given the option to become a premium customer. As such you will have a minimum order price such as 1000-5000 gold and you can customize your order to be how ever you like. Your shipment will arrive ever 2-4 days (perhaps longer based on the rarity of the items you are looking for) and which point a Courier will find you and notify you and you can either travel to the warehouse to pick up the shipment your self or your can tell the courier you would like it delivered to any building you own and as long as your player home mods are higher on your load order your shipment will appear in a locked chest where ever the map marker for the player home is set. You would also need to pay the courier after which he would provide you the key you need to open the locked chest. You could even use this to get rare items like black soul gems or jarris root (the root you get from the dark brotherhood to poison the emperor) obviously to get these "illegal" Items you would have to make choices in the quest line that would give you access to a more criminalized trade company that had black market connections.
