Are you having constant exterior CTDs? I've FINALLY found your sol

I recently found out that i changed uGridsToLoad=5 to 11..could that have been the cause of all my errors? Since even enabling all mods back and all else didn't fix it?

It's difficult to change the uGrids value with a savegame that already uses a modified version. You need to do some console commanding in order to revert back to 5. Read this.

yafi,

no this is a brand new character, new game, using mainly to test things out.

The interesting thing is this started happening about a month and a half ago. I finally gave up and did a full uninstall of Skyrim, Steam, and the CK. Completely cleared everything out. Did a reinstall, used the STEP program, plus some other mods, mostly armor retextures, a few animation mods, Black Tower, that sort of thing. And it continued to happen even after that. Sometimes it happens in the same place over and over, some times it is completely random when and where it happens.

I was just running another test a bit ago, and was able to play a solid 30 minutes, got into some fights, was casting spells, running from Whiterun to Riverwood, then I fought a bandit, and as soon as I cast the ice spell on him, game froze. I am using the Apocalypse spell pack mod, but am using vanilla spells when I freeze. I was using Phenderix's mod awhile ago, but uninstalled that a few weeks ago. Could there be an issue there, even with a completely brand new character/new game?

The only issue with your game freezing with a new game and new character would be a mod conflict or you've made some aggressive skyrim/skyrimprefs.ini tweak(s). They are the only 2 possibilities.

Hmmm, ok, well I'm pretty sure it's not the .ini's, so I guess it's back to the drawing board trying to figure out what's going on. Thanks for all your time and help, it is much appreciated.

I've spent the better part of the last 11 hours trying figure out why I keep crashing. I did find that Sky UI crashes my game, also Unique Region Names also crashes my game. I have no idea why either of these do it but removing them has helped. Still though, I cant play 5 min without a CTD. <_<,, Id get a log for you but even with all three of those enabled in the .ini no log is showing up (see screen shot) I just dont know what to make of this :/

Almost had it....

Deactivated and deleted "Sounds of Nature - Fire" and went to the same spot I've been freezing over and over while casting spells (it doesn't matter what type of spell btw, fire, ice, lightning, they all make me freeze) but I didn't freeze this time, I spent 30 minutes running around just casting at the ground, casting in the air, finding fights, using all 3 spell types, and no freezes! Started running towards Whiterun from Riverwood.....was just about to come post I found my solution....and BAM, MF'er, another freeze. I give up.

A thought just occurred to me, if anyone has any insight. Maybe I don't have conflicts, maybe I am pushing my system to hard?

My specs are:

i5-2500k @ 3.7 GHZz

AMD HIS IceQ Turbo 6950 2 GB

16 GB Corsair Vengeance

850w Coolermaster PS

Windows 7 64

I am using a lot of high resolution texture packs. I have GPU-z, and the highest memory usage I have seen is 1934 (my gpu has 2 GB of vram). Is it simply too much for this card and its freezing up because of it? Just a thought, if anyone can shed some light on this, would be very much appreciated. Because I am having zero luck locking down any consistent conflicts.

I'm convinced that the majority of our problems are related to Bethesda's releasing of version 1.6 and Steam's automatic installing with no notice or dialog asking if we want to update. Everyone should install Skyrim Unplugged http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12744 to prevent this from happening in the future, although it's no help right now as we crash all over the place and not sure which mod is causing the problem.

Another forum topic has been established about rolling back to another version of Skyrim:

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/707257-how-i-roll-back-skyrim-to-a-earyler-state/page__p__5613771__hl__revert__fromsearch__1&do=findComment&comment=5613771

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a solution if you don't back up your computer regularly and have a copy of TESV.EXE and UPDATE.ESM. Lesson learned; I'll certainly start doing this on a regular basis. What we need is an archive of the TESV and UPDATE files cross-referenced for the update versions so that people can roll-back if they need to.

@yafi

Following your advice I disabled:

- Monster mod

- Deadly Dragons (and armory)

- Dragon Lords

- Tales of Lycantrophy

- ASIS

All mods I know about that might alter AI. Both old and new game still caused crashes.

I tried deleting ini files again and for some reason game have run it self in vanilla mode (all mods disabled) and ctd did not occur. This ensured me it's not game files it self corrupted, but some mods.

So I'm doing the inevitable now - 1. clean old/not wanted/uncompatible etc, 2. update all other mods, 3. disable all mods, 4. run them one by one testing compatibility/load order... 6 hours and I'm at the point of disabling them all...

It's a lesson for the future, never again install new updates lol... What I get? Mounted combat that I'll prolly NEVER use, what I loose? lots of time, good mods, will to play this game. Awesome exchange lol

My system is very similar to yours. I have a Core I7 2600k, but haven't overclocked it yet (maybe I should,) and the HIS IceQ Turbo, but only 1GB of RAM, same Corsair Vengeance 16gb RAM, and 'only' a 750 Corsair PS under Windows 7.

I set Skyrim to Ultra HD, and I'm getting some stutter in the graphics every now and then, so perhaps I need to set to lower resolution. I may also have to lower the anti-aliasing, but I hate to do that.

To troubleshoot some of the CTD's I lowered the resolution to 'High' and lowered the anti-aliasing (don't recall where I set it) but that didn't seem to affect where and when the game tanked. I'm still pretty sure it's the unannounced install of ver 1.6. I've removed a lot of the mods I had installed and if I have to I'll follow the earlier directions on this forum topic to wipe everything out and start over, although I hate to have to do that.

Yeah I hear ya, but I have been having this problem since well before 1.6 went live. In fact joining the 1.6 Beta was one of the things I did to try and fix it, with obviously no luck. I am just stumped.
