  1. Changing fExtraTaskBudgeMS = 1.2 did it for me. Old thread, but I'm back to playing Skyrim again, so I figured I'd join the Stormcloakes and fight the Civil War. Also allowed me to fight the major battle in Solitude.
  2. I play on a PS3 and on a PC. I play on the PS3 for the enjoyment of the game and quests. I play on the PC for the enjoyment of the myriad of mods that are out there. I'll also likely try out some of the self-contained quest mods at some time in the future. Don't knock the PS3 if you don't own one and haven't tried the game on it. It plays very well. I'm 90% through on the main quest and am half way through on Dragonborne DLC. No severe bugs to speak of (since the days of problems walking into water...) I tried riding on a Dragon yesterday for the first time and felt the controls were clunky, but workable.
  3. I still haven't seen a version and a release date on the Bethesda blog. If anyone has, please post a link to ther posting. If you set Steam not to automatically update, it won't update; whether you're online or not. I use the app, "SkyrimUnplugged" available from Nexus, to either set or unset the auto-update feature from Steam.
  4. That tells me what I already have (1.8.151.0) but what I am looking to know is what is the latest release from Bethesda. Especially if I have Steam automatic updates turned off so I don't scramble my many mods.
  5. What is the latest version of Skyrim? I know I can load the game and from the player's screen, hit the ESC key and see the version in the lower left of the screen, but there may be times I want to know the version without starting the game first. Bethesda's Blog strangely enought doesn't actually list the latest version on it; or at least I have not been able to find a link that shows the version and release date. Could we either use this thread to post the latest version and release date, or point me to the right link/thread where it's readily avialble?
  6. CTD on completion of the Wolf Queen, Potema, just as she is defeated and the lighting stops. I have the console commands to enter the quest as complete right after it's assigned, but I'd like to finish it normally. Any suggestions?
  7. Is there any way to get a mod from the Steam Workshop, but not subscribe to it? Or get it into NMM somehow so that I can control load order? Or get BOSS to recognize it so I can manage it with a BOSS rule?
  8. Thanks, I have been on the Bethesda Blog in the past. Unfortunately it's a mishmash of publicity for their products and dificult to find things on like what you did post (and thanks for that.) It's all good advice, but after the fact, hard to swallow. Had my initial forays into the world of modding warned me right at the start, I might have been much more cautious. But the structure of play, save, mod, play, save again, play, save, mod, etc., etc., makes it very hard to recall which saved game had which mod installed and at what level of progression for my character, what followers he/she had, etc. I've used Nexus' Mod Manager almost exclusively to install and uninstall mods, but as I've found out, when removing mods with scripts, those scripts may remain referenced in save games that had them when saved. Yesterday, I found a reference to Mod Organizer (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1334), which claims to provide some insulation of one mod from another and the ability to install and uninstall with no significant impact to game saves: MO has several unique features not found in any other comparable tool: Mods are kept completely isolated from each other -> no more messy data directory (1) Profiles (2) Drag&Drop load order AND installation order management full control over the priority of BSA files (3) Nexus integration for easy download, installation and update of mods GUI support for manual installers partial compatibility with BAIN and fomod installers Savegame viewer active required mods from save game Archive Invalidation Categorize mods for better overview (customizable) easy overview of file conflicts complete help system Supports Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout NV and Skyrim no dependencies. Just unpack and go localization (currently: german, spanish, french and chinese) automatic self-updates BSA unpacking I'm not sure whether I can just start using MO at this state in my character's progression; probably not. And with other organizers like Wyre Bash (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1840) out there also claiming to be a better system for managing mods, I'm going to have to do a lot of additional research, trial and error before I uninstall everything, re-download and install Skyrim and start over managing mods and saved games as I should have from the start.
  9. It points out that there should be one central location for all the troubleshooting and editing tools, whether on Bethesda's official site/forums, Steam's site/forums or Nexus site/forums. I've gotten more serious over the last two weeks in attempting to get a running version of Skyrim with about 20 mods that I really like, but after installing and uninstalling 100-200 mods (lost track) and save games while my main character leveled from 20 to 47. If, like me, one stumbles blindly into the modding world and is not aware of all the great resources that are out there on wiki's, multiple forums, individual enthusiasts web sites (like S.T.E.P & others) we're likely to wind up hosed and backed into a corner with unloadable games, freezing games, crashes to desktops (who knew there was even an acronym for it, CTD, because it's so common.) There are many great YouTube videos and channels for mods (Gopher's is one I really like,) but nowhere but in reading individual posts in forums like this does one really wise up and realize that great discipline is needed when installing and removing mods if you want to continue to just play the game!
  10. Gopher has an excellent video out using TES4Edit on Fallout New Vegas, which is very similar to Skyrim. I'm attempting to digest it now:
  11. Link to an excellent post by Sharlikran, helping a user to troubleshoot his mod installation with TES5Edit: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/808774-tes5edit-experimental-is-now-available-for-experience-testers-to-try-o/page__view__findpost__p__6499203
  12. The answer to almost all of our problems may lie with the editing software, TES5Edit now available on Nexus: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/25859/ There is also a forum on Bethesda regarding its use: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1417195-relz-tes5edit/ and continued here: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1418088-relz-tes5edit/ A Cleaning Guide Wiki: http://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=TES5Edit_Cleaning_Guide_-_TES5Edit A Tutorial that is still under construction: http://www.creationkit.com/TES5Edit_Mod_Cleaning_Tutorial
  13. I had just about thrown in the towel. So many crashes that I was ready to remove the game and Steam and just revert back to my PS3. But... I turned the automatic updates back on again; went to steam and verified my cache, which as I understand it, forces an update, and defragged my game's cache. Voila, I'm back in business. No crashes.....so far.... We'll see if I stay 'sucked in' to my PC's game. I have a lot invested in my level 43 destruction mage and her 7 followers...
  14. See if this helps: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/737061-dunbluepalacearenascript-errors-fixed
  15. There's a lot of info on how to troubleshoot on this and other forums, so tell us specifically what you did so we can all benefit.
  16. Take a look at Skyrim Unplugged; I think it will apply to the packs as well, but am not sure. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12744 There's also a 'fix' for the HiRes packs that makes a change to your Skyrim.ini file by adding in the HiRes Texture Packs after you uncheck them from the list of data entries. I'm not sure if this will assist with your problem, but give it a try (remove the bold added below for assistance): [Archive] sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa
  17. One would think that Bethesda would have improved on the characters' looks, including hair, skin textures, etc., if they had wanted to, but perhaps they didn't knowing the limits of their game (engine? memory map, dynamics, display, etc.?) I do know that I significantly reduced a number of my crashes when I let some of my followers go under UFO, and then after removing all mods, reloading an early save game, and then adding mods back one by one starting with UFO and Apachie Sky Hair, I've had significantly less CTD's and freezes.)
  18. Great post, thanks. Lots of good recommendations through this whole forum thread. New readers should go back to page one and note all the troubleshooting recommendations that have been posted. I had just about given up on my level 37 elf mage with her 5 followers (using UFO), and was one step away from removing Skyrim completely and starting over when I decided to take one more step. I used NMM and removed all mods; everything. Unfortunately, there were some mods I had just copied directly into folders since they contained options that were not scripted with NMM. So my character had a ton of mods removed, and a few left but at least a stable game from her last saved position. It really was funny to see some of the followers that had been installed from player abodes stripped naked and running away to wherever they thought they were running to, but 3 of the followers remained in the interior location, even though they weren't my followers any more. Then, one by one, I started adding back my mods with NMM. First was UFO so I could regain the 3 followers that were in the interior space. Then armor mods; then smithing and enchanting; then magik spells and enhancements; then leveling mods. Each time I added a mod, I loaded the game, checked it was working, and did a new save and exited. This process took about two hours, but by the end I had added back about 75% of the mods I had previously and had no freezes or CTD's. I'm continuing to play, cautiously, and haven't added any new mods yet. I'm waiting to see which authors update to version 1.7 and compatibility with the Dawnguard DLC. Fingers crossed...
  19. I enjoy my mods and have no intent of updating Skyrim until the majority of the mod authors for the mods I use indicate that they have updated their mods to function under 1.7 and with Dawn Guard. With all the trouble I had when 1.6 came out and I was too much of a newbie to realize I could turn off automatic updates from Steam, I learned my lesson the hard way. Over on the Steam forum, posts are already indicating the DLC is buggy and CTD'ing. No way I'm going to pay good money to beat myself up!
  20. I like Fleetford; Picked up the Blacksmith's helper as a follower early on. I've uninstalled all mods and then picked up a saved game that wasn't crashing and started adding them back in one at a time. I haven't gotten to Fleetford again, but will try it shortly and see what happens. Good to see a mod author participating in the discussion. Do you mind sharing what mods you are running in addition to your own?
  21. I do not seem to have that entry in my Skyrim.ini. Should I add it with the value of 5, or is that the default value if it's not in there? If I do add it, what section is it under?
  22. I'm really irked that Bethesda's official policy is not to support mods, yet they are the ones that came out with the Creation Kit. If they're going to release something like that into the 'wild,' then they should at least have a couple of folks dedicated to supporting the modding community. They should be active on these forums or have set up an official discussion thread of modding on their own forums. Sigh...
  23. If one turns on Papyrus logs, and doesn't freeze or crash to desktop (CTD), what significance are the Papyrus logs? Did the developers use them to just trace and debug the game as it was developed?
  24. Why not set them up and post links to them here so we can subscribe to them?
  25. Last night I put Steam on my new notebook and then downloaded Skyrim. I set all display settings to low and unchecked the HiRes packs in the load order of the Data menu. I created a new character and ran him through the opening sequence. I decided to create a wood elf and give him archery skills. I got my first bow in looting a corpse and when I drew the bow and fired my first arrow, CTD !!! Reasonable specs on the notebook; Core I5 processor; 4gb RAM. Intel graphics. So definitely not MOD related, and shows that the basic Skyrim is just set up to fail from the start, even before doing any mods to it, which as I've stated before is the primary reason I purchased the game for the PC.
