Deleted49413338User
I basically never even bother checking Bethesda for mods. But I went there today to downloaded a winter mod that actually looks very good.It was brought to my attention on the page of another winter mod that I thought would be the best option, considering the author. It seems there are mods on Bethesda that really put up some competition. While there, I noticed a really nice looking helmet mod. It was only available for XB1. Do you think some authors are posting only there for console to try get a recognition? Creation club or Bethesda only mods might be the future of things sadly. Maybe getting noticed by Bethesda is part of peoples plan? IDK. I am fairly sure the way mods for Bethesda games will go in the future is, sadly to only have approved paid mods. Making games have Always Online connection, they could do this. Vanilla only if offline, load mods? log into Bethesda. I am sure people will find ways around it but that's not the point. I really love Nexus but of course, I want to be seeing all mods that are available. I honestly found it strange to see high quality mods available for console only on bethesda... Unless I just somehow overlooked how to navagate to a PC version..
Ethreon
The mentality of people doing that is the same as of the companies providing console exclusive games. At the end of the day it hurts the company itself and any potential costumers they would have from other platforms. It's silly and makes no financial sense, but hey, they're the kings of a small village hill.
CiderMuffin
Yea no,I doubt paid and approved only mods will become the standard. It makes no sense and Bethesda realizes the importance of the modding community. Paid mods will always be a side thing and tbh the curated system is good. I'm fine with mod makers getting paid for their work as it's not secret the donation system isn't working. As for Bethesda net itself, I don't see it as a concern. It's like the steam workshop, it opens up another area for people to post their mods if said people don't like the Nexus, Moddb or any of the various other sites. More options to upload mods is never a problem.
dikr
Sure, they have all the means to release quality (paid) mods and attract modders to work with/for them, but as long as they will support open & free modding of their games, third party platforms will always have an edge because they don't have to adhere to as much censorship as a game publisher needs to. Publishers have to release games with less blood and gore in some countries and without any nudity in others. So developers are served by third party platforms to supply people with the kind of modified game that they actually want to play but without being responsible for it. I hope Bethesda realizes that. Then there's also independent software developers like the folks behind F4SE, ENB, etc. I don't think going for a total control on modded content sometime in the future, will do them any good. (For me personally that would be a definite deal breaker).
Deleted49413338User
Yeah I agree it seems absurd from a marketing standpoint. I hope 76 is their only online game and games don't begin to veer that way. There is this big thing now in the last couple of years about being able to play online with your friends. Personally, I don't really like co-op games. I like PVP shooters and stuff but there seems to be a huge surge towards putting co-op into a lot of games now. I know 76 is pvp basically, but Future titles, idk. If something has online capabilities, it instantly opens itself to censorship, in regards to what modded content is gonna be allowed. Some games Might allow modded servers and not put many rules in place. I thought I read that Todd had stated Mods need to be regulated due to excessive adult content and mod theft? I am not sure on the legitimacy of that claim...but, I immediately thought that sounded like an opportunity to start the ball rolling. Only allowing Bethesda.net mods for future releases. IDK how they would manage that though. There will always be places to find unregulated mods, but that's not the issue really. My mind is always overthinking people tell me, but what came to mind was a system where mod creators pay for a license for Creation Kit, the only tool capable of unlocking future game files, and upload their mods to bethesda. who regulates the mods.. Again I agree this would kill them. It would be a terrible marketing decision. Just that after hearing about how Todd was "concerned" about mod theft (while allowing so many unorthorised xbox ports to go under the radar) it made me think that sounded like one of those excuses where people claim to be doing something for others but really its for money. Anyway, I came back here to say, I just got a winter overhaul mod from bethesda. the other day, after hearing about it on here. Posted unfortunately, on another recent winter overhaul mod page by a very talented mod author. Something just seems strange to me over at bethesda. This winter overhaul is probably the best Ive ever seen, although for some reason it's split into several esp's. The mod author claims it's their first ever mod. Maybe it is, but it is great work. I am not sure, but it feels strange, like posting high quality content on that site but no where else, and saying its your first ever mod. Feels like a sort of resume to me.. again, people tell me I overthink too much.. haha. Edited October 6, 2018 by Guest
CiderMuffin
76 is being developed by a side Bethesda studio. It's not going to kill the series or change focus much like ESO didn't end the TES series.
