Ganit
I was discussing the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim with a friend of mine the other day and we got to talking about how it'd be nice to have a more Oblivion-esque approach to being able to join up. SCENARIO: You murder a random innkeeper, shop owner, Kahjiit, whatever and the next time you sleep in an inn in a major city, you're visited by a Dark Brotherhood initiate who gives you a note offering you an opportunity to join them. The note would tell you to murder some random, unnamed NPC who is staying in a random, local inn somewhere in Skyrim. Upon murdering your victim, you would discover a note on the corpse that said something along the lines of "We are located in the south of Falkreath. Remember: Silence is the music of life." Upon arrival, it would trigger what normally triggers there with Astrid welcoming you. Thoughts, comments, corrections? Is the Sanctuary actually south of Falkreath? I didn't take the time to look before typing this out. It isn't critically important. I don't have the skill to make this mod, but I was hoping some one who did would see it and take an interest. kevkiev
So the triggering event is a random, completely character-generated, murder rather than one that's part of a quest like it is now? So if you never murdered anyone you'd never get to join? I like it. Though it would be good to work in the flip side as well. Maybe some random event where you save someone from a DB assassination attempt and you find some information describing who the DB is and what they, and includes a mention of Astrid. (Or maybe just finding a more explanatory note on one of the DB assassin's body). Then you realize it's the same group that's been sending killers your way and you're on your way to extracting revenge. Would be nice to have to piece together a bunch of clues for the sanctuary location though, rather than the current scenario of simply reporting to a guard and getting orders from Maro. Ganit
Actually, I was thinking that Grelod the Kind method could still be active, too but it might work better if it isn't. Or, that could be rewritten as a trap for the Brotherhood. Because, like you said, everyone knows about it. "It's no secret: The Aretino boy's doing some kind of ritual."
