requires cleaning (LOOT) ?

I haven't touched Skyrim in a while and wanted to download some mods for it. Before I used Nexus Mod Manager (NMM), LOOT and TES5Edit and Wrye Bash to get my mods cleaned and installed.

This worked well after I found a tutorial on how to do it.

This is a new install of Windows 7 Pro and Skyrim so there aren't any programs affecting Skyrim.

I was able to install "Alternate Start" and use it. I had Skyrim HD 2K textures and SkyUI installed and active but in game the textures are the same and SkyUI just didn't work.

There was what looked to be a spray bottle that said needs cleaning (LOOT) next to some items but nothing to click on to "clean". I think my load order was correct because Vortex does it automatically?

I'm using Vortex 1-0-16-5

Some mods, like for example, Armorsmith or one of them on this line also requires to be cleaned up but according to the same author, we should not clean it since it has been already by him/her and per his/her own input about the issue, it is a glitch and we should not worry about it.

In Skyrim is the same thing. My recommendation is to check with the mod author, read the posts ( usually they address it in that section ) and go from there. Do not clean any mod if it has not been advised by the mod author.

The only mod I know it has to be cleaned by the player, is Vivid Weathers in Skyrim and when you do it, only do the first two steps of the cleaning process ( apply filter for cleaning and the next ... undelete references should not be done according to what I know ) and that should fix the problem.

Also, once you clean the mod, close Vortex and reopen it and you will see no more that particular mod requires cleaning.

Haven't used xEdit. Can I use TES5Edit? It's what I used in the past.

I got SkyUI working, forgot to start the game using the Skyrim (SKSE) shortcut (I also think the 2K textures are working).

edit: just saw that TES5Edit is xEdit, just for use with The Elder Scrolls 5.
