Skyrim has gone berserk!

The game was running perfectly last night. Today I installed several of slof's animal mods and from that point onwards the game went to pieces. What's happening is that my character behaves normally until I jump.

- As soon as I jump she can walk into space and through mountains.

- She can hover in mid-air and descend through the ground.

- If she enters water it snows underwater and when she exits she continues swimming into the sky!

- Her feet will never touch the ground.

- In battle she can kill everyone but they won't die. Instead NPC's merge with each other and become one.

- NPC's will NOT attack her.

- If I make her walk above the heads of NPCs and followers they all look up at her.

I tried 'tcl' and 'tcl off' in the console but they made no difference.

If I try to exit the game it crashes every time.

Now here's where it gets really weird...

My system is equipped with Rollback Rx, a significantly more advanced version of Windows System Restore. The normal and simplest solution to this issue would be to restore the system to the previous day when everything ran perfectly so I did that. As Rollback Rx works on a sector by sector imaging process anything amiss in any ini files or data files would instantly have been repaired. But no, the game persists in behaving this way. I'm currently upping a video to show what's going on but it won't be upped until tomorrow. In the meantime perhaps someone may have some hints to give me?

Here is the video.

Has nobody got any ideas at all?

I would reinstall the game if I believed that would fix it but I know it wouldn't because it does the same thing no matter how far back in time I rollback to.

A bit late now, but probably the first thing to have tried before rolling-back would have been to remove the mods and revert to a save game made before you installed the mods.

Since you have rolled back, have you double checked that it really has rolled back correctly and removed the mods and have you tried an older save game?

Failing all that, looks like a re-install is on the cards.

I believe I have found the problem (corrupted ini files).

Rollback Rx allows you to protect files you specify as not to be rolled back so that you don't lose any important data. This is particularly important with emails for example. Even if you don't specify anything you can still recover lost files by mounting the snapshot you rolled back from as a virtual drive. Anyway, I discovered I had specified Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini to be protected from being rolled back. After recovering them from Saturday's snapshot the game appears to be working correctly again. I say "appears to" because I'm at work and have not had the time to test it thoroughly. I will do that this evening. What I can say at this moment is that my character runs and jumps normally. The crosshair which was glued to the centre of the screen has vanished. And she cannot walk through rocks anymore. :)

Incidentally, there are a whole host of snapshot imaging programs like Rollback Rx and I really recommend installing one because it will almost always get you out of trouble, and that includes those people who want to go back to a previous version that Steam ruined with an update. To get a better idea of how Rollback Rx works see http://is.gd/fIyzXu. It works with RAID 0 and 1 too. Of course it is only a primary defense so it is still necessary to backup to external drives or some other support in case your hard drive ever fails which sooner or later it will.

Right, I played for an hour last night and I can confirm the problem has gone. The crosshair remains centre screen but I think it's supposed to be that way or maybe I have it activated in the game options.

Let me also add that slof's mods had nothing to do with this and I'm going to reinstall them tonight.
