germancoinnut
Hi first time posting here and id like someone to try and make a mod off an idea. Grass View Distance increased! I want it like huge distance increase at least 4 times the max distance given. I think it would awesome and transform the look of the game. My current rig is an i7 4790, gtx 1060, and ssd. and it doesnt break a sweat with the game as it is now, not even close, so i think most PCs could handle it. Also maybe a mod to make silver veins rejuvenate! Let me know what you think!
BFG99
Welcome! Afraid you will not find very many people in this forum....most have moved to Skyrim. Iâm only here because my 10 year old laptop probably cannot handle Skyrim :) Just increase the grass drawing distance in the INI file. There is no need for a mod unless you are looking for LOD style grass, which wouldnât make sense. You can increase many of the INI file settings beyond the highest possible settings within Oblivion itself. If you have power to spare, start messing with the settings that affect LOD and use a mod like RAEVWD - assuming you arenât already. There are plenty of guides online for how to mod the INI. As for the silver veins - I thought vanilla already did that? I thought you needed a mod like Harves Containers to stop them from respawning. BFG99
Also, you should have posted this in Mod Requests. This thread should be moved or closed.
LFact
Check this: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45749and, this game can bring your machine to knees when it's too much. (I once installed RAEVWD and check framerate at Imperial Waterfront. I'm sure you'll be lucky if you get ~20fps there)
BFG99
Yes, I avoid pretty much all mesh and texture replacers, LOD enhancers, etc. for that reason. I'd rather have the frame rate than pretty graphics at 5FPS. But then again, my laptop is 10 years old - only 2 newer than Oblivion itself. germancoinnut
Thanks guys! I will try the INI file soon and post the results. The only texture mod i have is Qarls Texture Pack and its good enough for me for now. My GPU currently runs no more than 42 C with the max grass distance. If the FPS goes down too far im currently in a new build that just needs a GPU, a GTX 1080 ti or RTX 2080 is what im wanting, just need the funds. Its currently with Asus Maximus X Apex MB, i7 8086K, G Skill 2x16GB, and Samsung SSD. And i will post the results for that when i get that done also and see how far it can go! germancoinnut
I got it! I set the file from 25 to 100 and its soo much nicer to not watch grass grow in front of me! I just changed this file - uGridDistantCount=25 - to 100 and restarted to PC. It gets a bit choppy when the game first loads but then it smooths out and it runs the same temps also. Thanks again! BFG99
You bet. BTW you can squeeze out even more power if you start doing the optimizing steps like PyFFI, Ordenador, etc. They make a huge difference on my ancient laptop. There are also numerous other INI graphical options, from shadows to tree size to specular distance, you can play around with.
