Reposting this cause I posted it in wrong category D:

Hello

I wanna ask for help on how to remove part of armor(from mod) ,in my case shorten the pants to have more skin revealed.

Now.. Ive tried doing this on my own by importing it to blender and removing few verticles but got invisible legs in game and incorrect arm texture, feels like im stuck.

Thanks in advance

When mod authors are creating armor or clothing, they oftentimes remove the parts of the body that are not exposed. This is to cut-down on the vertice count.

What you have to do is use NifSkope and open the armor. Then in another instance of NifSkope, open the male body. You will then have to copy and paste the body into your armor and save it.

I usually use the original name of the armor and add a 2 just before .nif.

You would then import the new armor into blender, parent the armor to the new armature, do a bone weight copy and then remove any vertices that are not exposed.

Export the new armor and open it in NifSkope and set the shaders, batch update all tangent spaces, optimize the mesh by removing bogus nodes and save.

Okay so far so good,is the body mesh supposed to be inside of the original armor when I import it in blender though? even though it seems to be placed correct in nifskope,in blender it appeared under it so I had to place it in there

Thanks for the guide by the way,it really helped

To answer your question, maybe. That is if you use the exact same body as the mod author, it should fit without any clipping, maybe.

I have found only a very few clothing/armor mods that you could add the nude body to and not have any clipping.

I usually remove any parts of the body that clip through the outer garments and adjust any exposed blank areas in blender.

You are very welcome. If you are going to get serious about modding, there are a lot of tutorials available to help you using any of the modding tools. Make sure you checkout other games for tutorials.

Remember, the game engine is the same so you can use any tutorial from Oblivion, FO3, FONV, or Skyrim.

Yes, I would like to eventually, although im quite lost now im having fun with it

Also wanted to ask,I dont get the armature part,I mean is the body I added in nif considered one or do I need to manually add them?

Then I suppose if the case is latter I need to parent both armor and body to it and then transfer weight through weight paint, right?

hope I dont bother you too much, cheers

Using Blender, you would parent the armor to the skeleton (armature). I suggest that you download the Blender Manual and use it to get acquainted with how to use the various tools in blender.

You add the bone weight through a script in blender. There are various tutorials available and I suggest you download them before getting too far into your modding.

Perhaps another way would serve your purpose. You could try to make the pants shorter through transparency. No need to use blender. Look at this great tutorial: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/20257/

It helped me to remove cloaks from Redguard outfit an do some other nice stuff.

That is a good tutorial, but it does not solve the missing legs that was the concern of the OP.
