Matt007uk
Hi, I'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times on here, but here we go again. So, I've got a lovely copy of Fallout 3 from a sale on GoG.com. Great thing is, if you want to play the game vanilla with no mods, the Gog version works straight away on Windows 10, no need change any settings, well done GoG!. Of course, even if you run the game at 4K, it still looks pretty ugly these days. So, I thought I'd use Nexus mods and install the NMC texture pack to make the game at least look nicer and then maybe get some more mods to improve it's look. This worked, at least initially, game looks a lot better, but it keeps crashing, aagh! I tried FOSE and the Anti-stutter, game doesn't pause as much now, but it still crashes, seemingly and in random places. I tested this by just walking from Megaton to the Super Duper Mart. With the graphics mod installed, game crashes, without the mod it runs fine. The crash has no error, game just stops and drops back to Windows 10 desktop. So, how do I get to play this game with the graphics mods without it crashing? What do I need to do? My SpecsWindows 10 64-bitAMD FX 8350 (not state of the art, but it should get the job done with this old game)8GB DDR 2GeForce GTX 970 4GB Thanks in advance. M48A5
Uninstall the game and re-install it outside of "Program Files". Which NMC texture pack? There are four of them. Did you make the .ini changes to limit the CPU to two cores when playing the game?
Matt007uk
Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. I believe I downloaded the biggest one. Which one should I use for my system? I will uninstall the game and place it outside program files. Please get back to me. Cheers!
Matt007uk
Update: Uninstalled and re-installed the Gog version of the game, this time placing the install outside of Program Files. My game is installed on my secondary hard drive. Checked my Fallout 3 ini file for the muti-core settings. It is set to: bUseThreadedAI=1iNumHWThreads=2 Indeed, this is automatically set up by the Gog version of the game. Installed Fose, installed the Anti-stutter mod.Installed and activated Ani-stutter. Downloaded and installed NMC texture Mod - the 'Performance' version.Ran the game via the FOSE Loader Walking back and forth from Super Duper Mart to Megaton. No crashes.Walked around Megaton, went in a few buildings. On my second attempt to enter Moira's, game froze on the loading screen and game randomly crashed to desktop. I'm running in 1920x1080 resolution. On the Nexus site there is loads of Mods for Fallout 3. Surely some people must be able to play it stable? I need further help please. Thanks,
M48A5
With no mods, I don't see what could be causing a problem. I can point you to the Fallout Wiki, which has instructions and troubleshooting articles. https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Main_Page All of the instructions apply for the games listed on the main page. Matt007uk
Like I said, the GoG version without mods doesn't crash, it seems pretty stable. But not with mods. Thanks for the link. Will take a good look at the Crashes fix/reduce guide on there. Cheers.
