GECK height map color masking default values?

While reading the height map section on the GECK website I decided to tinker with the "Color Masking" and well... I messed them up.

After changing around some of the values my map editor no longer looks smooth and detailed and is now blurry and kind of hard to look at.

I'm trying to revert back to the "default" values the color masking was set to when I initially installed the GECK and opened the height map editor

(I had never even touched the color masking until today)

Any help?

Shot in the dark. In your "Users" folder for the game (where your game INI files are found) is a "GECKPrefs.ini" file. In there is the following section, with these default values:

[HeightMapEditor]
uBrushSetting11=52531250
uBrushSetting10=52531250
uBrushSetting9=52531250
uBrushSetting8=52531250
uBrushSetting7=52531250
uBrushSetting6=52531250
uBrushSetting5=52531250
uBrushSetting4=52531250
uBrushSetting3=52531250
uBrushSetting2=52531250
uBrushSetting1=52531250
uBrushSetting0=52531250
iColorSchemeHeight9=65535
iColorSchemeHeight8=57344
iColorSchemeHeight7=49152
iColorSchemeHeight6=40960
iColorSchemeHeight5=32768
iColorSchemeHeight4=24576
iColorSchemeHeight3=16384
iColorSchemeHeight2=8192
iColorSchemeHeight1=4096
iColorSchemeHeight0=0
rColorSchemeBrush=0,255,0
rColorSchemeGrid=0,255,0
rColorScheme9=128,128,128
rColorScheme8=102,255,51
rColorScheme7=128,0,128
rColorScheme6=255,128,192
rColorScheme5=255,0,0
rColorScheme4=255,255,0
rColorScheme3=128,0,0
rColorScheme2=0,255,255
rColorScheme1=0,0,128
rColorScheme0=0,0,0

Hope that helps.

Yep copy pasting these values over what you have in your GeckPrefs.ini fixed it.

iColorSchemeHeight9=65535
iColorSchemeHeight8=57344
iColorSchemeHeight7=49152
iColorSchemeHeight6=40960
iColorSchemeHeight5=32768
iColorSchemeHeight4=24576
iColorSchemeHeight3=16384
iColorSchemeHeight2=8192
iColorSchemeHeight1=4096
iColorSchemeHeight0=0

That's if you don't want to just delete the whole .ini and let it regenerate from launching the geck.

Because then you will lose all other customization you have done to the geck.

I had thought the reset button on that window would do it , but it appears to only reset the current instance of adjusting those settings back to what it was upon opening the window .

Nice shot in the dark dubious :wink:

Add edit : Hmmm I can't seem to find the default .ini where these values would be saved at.

Like the game keeps 4 default .ini in the install location. But the geck doesn't appear to have even one.

So I guess without someone to look at their default settings for you , would have to reset the whole .ini ^shrug^ ???

Err on second thought , could just do some ping pong of the settings , by renaming the current .ini ,

Then regenerate a new default settings file , copy / paste the settings into the old one , then rename it back. And I guess even rename and keep the default for future copy/pasting of default settings.

Sorry to mention what was probably obvious to others , I guess I am a bit slow at times .

Good idea backing up the default to "refresh" any broken/unsatisfactory settings the you may be left with while experimenting.

Not claiming to be a genius over here but it seems strange that something so complex (to get right) and has such dramatic effects on productivity wouldn't have a more simple way to revert to normal...

Not to mention there was nowhere on their web site that had the default values. It simply states between 0-68000 lol
