Ayanro
A new mod that is sweeping attention throughout the Oblivion modding community, it is a true to life scaled map of Middle-Earth. The attention to detail and scale are amazing. There's just one problem. No legions of orcs patrolling Mordor. No hobbits getting drunk in taverns. No fellowships on quests to save the lands. We as modders should get together and use this opportunity to make the Middle-Earth gaming experience we have always wanted. How cool would it be to take the One Ring along the path of Frodo, visiting the Elves or battling the Balrog on the bridge of Khazad-Dum? While I am not volunteering to lead such an undertaking, I am trying to organize people together who can. But that still doesn't mean I can't put my two cents in. I think we should split this project by region of Middle-Earth. Focus on perfecting one area, releasing it as a mod and moving onto the next. It can be done. THE SHIRERolling farmland and vineyards where little people dwell in homes built into hills. LOCATIONS: Bag End, Green Dragon tavern, Maggot's Farm NPCs: Mainly just common folk going about their business growing things or getting drunk at a tavern. Perhaps one can interact with Frodo or Bilbo, or they're not around because they're on the road. Sam can be found gardening, while Merry and Pippin get into trouble. Occassionally Gandalf comes to visit. QUEST IDEAS: Recieve the One Ring or even escort/follow Frodo, steal crops from Farmer Maggot for Merry and Pippin, hook Sam up with Rose, chase Nazgul out of the Shire BREE-LANDA collection of shabby villages populated by shady or desperate characters. Rogues, rangers and wayward travelers pass through here. LOCATIONS: Prancing Pony Inn, Ranger's Guild Hall NPCs: "Strider" can be found lurking around with his fellow rangers or hanging out at a tavern. Butterbur the innkeeper. A few hobbits that have dared to wander out of the Shire. The rest would be unpleasent looking people and the occassional lightly armed night watchman. QUEST IDEAS: Join the ranger's guild, track down a thief hiding in the villages, defend the town from the Nazgul RIVENDELA hidden Elven retreat in the mountains, perhaps one can only enter by partaking in a quest to gain Lord Elrond's trust. There are healing houses, ancient libraries and basically a sense of tranquility about this place. LOCATIONS: Council meeting place, the library, healing house, medicine and goods dealer, museum, weapons smith NPCs: Elrond, his sons and Arwen can be found walking around. Maybe Legolas, Gimli and Boromir can be found here. QUEST IDEAS: Form a fellowship to take the One Ring to Mordor, locate ancient items, learn Elvish magic MORIADepending on the time-frame of the game, this is either a glorious dwarven hall of riches or a tomb full of rotting corpses and populated by goblins and trolls. Maybe the player on their way out has to face a certain creature from the darkness in order to cross the bridge of Khazad-Dum... LOCATIONS: Balin's Tomb, that great hallway I can't think of the name, the bridge of Khazad-Dum NPCs: Balin (if alive), various Dwarven miners and warriors QUEST IDEAS: Find out what happened to the dwarves, defeat goblin hordes, slay the Balrog LORIENThe woodland realm of Galadirel and Celeborn, their homes are high up in massive trees. LOCATIONS: Lothlorien, various outposts in the trees NPCs: Galadriel, Celeborn, Haldir, Elven healers and archers QUEST IDEAS: Fend off invading goblins ROHANThe wide realm of the horse-lords would be awesome if there were actual patrols of men on horses. LOCATIONS: Helm's Deep, Edoras, the Westfold (farmland) NPCs: Theoden, Wormtongue, Eomer, Eowyn, Hamas, Gamling, various peasents and horsemen QUEST IDEAS: Find out the traitor in the court, remove the possession of Theoden, defend the Westfold from Uruk/barbarian invasion, escort the citizens to Helm's Deep ISENGARDEither a place where the Wise gather to study the mystic arts or it is a ruined place full of mines and breeding grounds for Uruk armies. LOCATIONS: Orthanc NPCs: Saruman, Wormtongue, Gandalf, Radagast the Brown QUEST IDEAS: Find out why Saruman has been acting so weird lately, help the Ents flood Isengard GONDOROnce a glorious kingdom, it is crumbling underneath the weak rule of the Stewards until the King comes again. And it kind of sucks looking out your window everyday and seeing Mordor shake its fist at you everyday. LOCATIONS: Minas Tirith, Osgiliath, other towns and cities NPCs: Denethor, Faramir, Boromir, peasents, soldiers, knights QUEST IDEAS: Return the King to the throne, defend Minas Tirith, take back Osgiliath, go on quests in the service of the Steward MORDORThis hellish place is populated by orcs and monsters. The only safe way through here is dressed as an orc. (We should use Oblivion gate affects to make this place ALWAYS dark, stormy and hellish). LOCATIONS: Barad-dur, Mount Doom, Black Gate, Minas Morgul, Cirith Ungol NPCs: Sauron, Witch-King, Nazgul, orcs and slaves QUEST IDEAS: Take the Ring into Mount Doom, battle orcs at the Black Gate, rescue prisoners from Barad-dur
tyreil829
this is really easier said then done if your going to do with fellow modders many of this will have to be custom meshes to keep with the lore of middle earth some mods have already made weapons and armour ready for you but other then that the idea is pretty sound a lot more quests possablely but other then that good luck! Ayanro
Thanks, Carth. I also figure some pre-existing meshes could be used from the game, mainly architecture. The Imperial City can be used for Gondor and Bruma perhaps for Rohan.
tyreil829
you might want to darken the wood textures on the bruma houses it gives it a bit more of a feel possable no stone work showing perhaps? Carth Onasi
Lainge
Too bad the LoTR was sooo freaking boring...Tried reading the book, nope...1st movie I liked, but I couldn't follow the others. But, the games are unbelievably cool... I would deffinately give this a try, but wasn't there already a middle earth mod being made?

Lip
Dude its already being done :). The middle earth role playing Total Conversation!! And I cant wait. But, I don't know if its still in progress, but I'm just assuming it :(. Cause there dosent seem to be any progress being made on it. It's started like in 2006 and its now 2008 and a beta has only come out recently. And It's being led by: The Grey Wizard. In fact I posted a reply in it a page back from this, if you wanna see. It's a fairly old topic by the looks of it.
Ayanro
Oh, okay. I heard about a project that got shut down because New Line Cinema got mad. (Maybe it was a mod for another game...) Well, I still think something should be done with this map anyways, because a lot of hard work went into it and it has a lot of potential. And the creator actually wants people to expand upon it. chris 07
This mod is currently being led by mike as teh grey wizard had to leave due a internship. Its still going very strong so join their team so that they can get more work done. Besides did you even ask if you can use that? I mean it is their work after all.Btw for those who dont believe i just asked mike right now on messenger.
