RicoRedstar
ok so this is my first mod and I thought I followed the directions right and still can't get this mod to work. I run VistaI have this mod http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18353and no others and this is what my data files in oblivion look like Music(folder)shaders(folder)video(folder)creditsoblivion.esmANBPredator.espoblivion-meshes.bsaoblivion-misc.bsaoblivion sounds.bsaoblivion-textures-compressed.bsaoblivion-voices1.bsaoblivion voices2.bsaomod conversion data (folder)textures (folder)meshes (folder)ANBPredator readme so looking at the above, and aside from running vista, what am I doing wrong? LHammonds
and aside from running vista, what am I doing wrong?I love this quote. Very funny. Well, check your "Meshes" and "Textures" folders to make sure they have the same NIF and DDS files in them that the Predator archive has inside it. If you have Oblivion installed under the "Program Files" location, extracting to the Data folder might not actually let you extract the Meshes and Textures sub-folders. Another possibility is that you simply did not start the Oblivion Launcher, click Data Files and enabled the plugin. If you did enable the plugin, it is possible that you have Oblivion 1.0 (unpatched) and the new file format of newer plugins are not recognized by Oblivion 1.0 and either requires that you patch your Oblivion or use a "Back-Rev Technique" to modify the internal version of the plugin to the old version which will allow Oblivion 1.0 to recognize the plugin. DarkWarrior45
Like LHammonds was saying, you should try to patch your game to the 1.2 patch and see if this fixes the issue.
bben46
For Vista, if you have installed oblivion in the default location, There is a security feature that prevents mods from working - Vista security, not Oblivion. Its called UAC and there is a work around - I don't use Vista so I don't have a very good grasp of how to do this without disabling this security feature. However, I can help you if you want to disable it. Vista users may have to disable a security function known as UAC. If you have downloaded and installed, and the mod is appearing in your Data Files List, but not in your game check to see if UAC is turned on. If so. Look here for instructions on how to turn it off. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/ I am looking for a good write up of a way to do this without disabling the UAC. It should be step by step and easily understood by someone who is not very computer literate.

It's a bad idea badly executed, it's still easily exploitable by those with a motive to do so, and the sooner it fails the sooner we can all move on to something (hopefully) better. I'm using Vista, btw, here's a discussion that I don't think will help you access the application data files without turning off UAC, but it may go a ways toward understanding how it works, the second link is to MS documentation - the "why" portion. Michlo
Ahem, first of all, there is nothing wrong with Vista. :P I've been using it just fine since Beta. Second, advising everyone to completely turn off UAC is a mistake. There are plenty out there who aren't as computer literate as we on the boards (and even some ON the boards for that matter) and although it isn't a particularly friendly feature it IS there for a reason. It protects those who can't protect themselves and believe me, having worked in IT for years, I've dealt with these people a LOT. They are also usually the ones responsible for sending viruses on to everyone. Also, you're not going to get many pop-ups anyway after you have everything installed and running. Finally, if you turn it off altogether you are then faced with the red shield icon in your system tray warning you that you are not completely protected. You CAN turn that off as well but to my mind that would be stupid as then you'll not be warned should your virus protection fail, etc. If you ARE the admin on your box and you are somewhat savvy so you feel you're protecting yourself sufficiently then you don't have to turn it off, you can just have the requests silently succeed (known in Vista as silently elevating to admin). Ah good, I was about to type it all out but Hayo on that linked thread already did for us: _____________Open the Run Command and type secpol.msc This will open the Local Security Policy. Browse through the Local Policy to the Security Policy. Click on the Security Policy folder. In the window to the right locate: User Account Control: Behavior of the Elevation prompt for administrator's in Admin Approval Mode. Change it to: Elevate without Prompting. Then reboot. This has gotten rid of a lot of problems for me. _______________ Please remember when giving computer advice that you're giving it to people of all levels. Cheers. LHammonds
Michlo, this was already a solved problem as the OP already stated. Besides, the Oblivion Mods FAQ on the CS Wiki covers the correct solution to the "Program File" directory woes. Simply install Oblivion somewhere other than the default folder. Closing thread.
