Drax8
So after exhausting every avenue trying to figure out why I'm freezing, trying every suggestion, and nothing working, gonna ask to see if anyone knows about this. Testing some things out, I had my customary freeze, did ctrl-alt-del to shut down Skyrim. Just for fun, I decided to look at the other tabs in the task manager. Under the performance tab, it listed this: Physical memeory usage: 4.69 GB Total: 16301Cached: 9030Available: 11739Free: 2951 I tried a few more times to compare, and each I froze the numbers were very very similar. To anyone that knows more about this stuff than I do, in regards to Skyrim, are there any red flags with these numbers? Please, if you have any info, please please share. Thanks. Georgiegril
Well, that seems like a lot in your cache. Windows 7 has a prefetch system, where it saves files your use often in the cache to make them open more quickly. You can get rid of excess files in the prefetch by clearing your cache. I think a complete shutdown would also get rid of a lot of it. Do you have your paging file set manually? You could try letting Windows handle it manually. There are all kinds of articles you can find on google on people's opinions about paging files. I'm nowhere near an expert on that. Have you tried something like GBoost or Game Booster to shut down the background processes? Something like Glary Utilities (or similar programs) to look at your startup items and clean up your files? Run your antivius scans to make sure you don't have any unauthorized processes ? It does seem to me that you might possibly be exceeding your available memory at the load, and that could be the cause of your hang. Also, are you shutting down your internet browser? Firefox in particular has a know issue with excessive memory use/leaks. They keep saying they have it fixed whenever they release a new version, but it continues to be a problem for many. (including me). This may be obvious, but if you open task manager, you can see what is actually using the memory. Hope this might help..... Drax8
Thanks for the reply Geargie, yeah I've tried Gamebooster, didn't help at all. I've tried several different things with the paging file, nothing made any difference. I'm just lost. Anti-Virus is totally clean as well.
