Lolijustdidthat
As HardToRegister said (just to clarify), the ModStaging Path must be on the same drive as the game itself, but outside of the game's installation! I suggest creating a directory like <Drive>:\Vortex\<game> for this. Example, if you want to mod SkyrimSE which is installed on E: then I'd use the folder E:\Vortex\SkyrimSE as the Mod Staging Folder for Skyrim. You can name the folder differently, of course. I've done this and I can't get it to work. My Fallout 4 is on my D: drive and my vortex mod staging path is on my D: drive but nothing is happening. Grestorn
What exactly do you mean when you write 'nothing is hapenning'? What exactly have you done and what happened?
Destul
Can anyone help I try to use D:\steamapps\common\fallout 4\mods but it says the destination directory has to to be empty mods is empty though should i move everything to a stand alone file
Grestorn
Don't put you mod staging path anywhere INSIDE of the game itself. Use some other path on D:, like D:\Vortex\ModStaging\Fallout4
MagicMan3000
I'm having a major problem with this also and it's really bugging the hell out of me. I made sure that the staging folder was empty, on the same drive, and not in the same directory as the game itself (or "below" it) yet, for some reason it doesn't work. My directories are as followed; D:Steam (obvious)Skyrim Mods (this folder contains all mods Vortex has downloaded) I ran Skyrim (all four instances, SKSE, Steam, via folder, and via Vortex) and the mods don't work (or Vortex, whichever.) I can tell because one; I have Alternate Start and two; I have SkyUI. Alternate Start /could/ (I use extremely loosely) not being working right but SkyUI doesn't show when I open the menu. This is further backed by some others mods I have installed that I can view (once that slow ass cutscene stops) that don't do what they should. The deployment method wasn't changed (at least it shouldn't have been) as my default was "Hardlink" (as it should be as I read.) Now when I first used Vortex I did download (through it) all of my mods in the wrong drive then staged in a folder that was contained within the Steam library (commonapps) as "Skyrim Mods". I'm not sure if this is my problem, as I wasn't sure how to change it and I thought Vortex wouldn't have a problem when I changed it since it knew where Skyrim was before my modding. I hope I don't have to download all those mods again as I tried doing it with NMM and that didn't work either. Before pulling all my hair out, I searched the problem and did it exactly as I should have for NMM but that also didn't do anything.
borncreole
Just as NMM, Vortex will unpack the mods in a separate directory and then link the mods into the game's own directory. NMM did just the same! The only thing you have to make sure that the mod staging directory in on the same drive as the game itself. Vortex will warn you if that's not set correctly. You can set the mod staging directory here: Image 1.png Since you didn't write any details about the error message you get, I have to guess here. If that was not your problem then please write more about the error you get so we can help you. WAIT! IM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THATT. So I just want to move my mods to the hard drive but I don't know how to change the name
