Issues on new computer...

Recommended Posts

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster here, just have a bit of a conundrum I hope you can help with :

I have modded FO3 and have been playing fine on my laptop, but I want to play it on my new desktop. Now, I have everything installed on an external hard drive for space issues. This was never an issue before but playing on a new computer I fear it might be. I copied the My Games folder onto the desktop to keep my old saves, then proceeded to run Fallout Mod Manager from the hard drive. When I tried launching the game I get the "Xlive.dll is missing from your computer" error. I know you can tick the "use fake xlive.dll" box in FOMM's tools but when I do that I don't get the error message but the game doesn't launch. In fact, nothing happens at all.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you copy everything contained in that folder to your "my documents" folder? If so, look up the "Fallout3" folder inside the "my games" folder. In it you will find a folder with your savegames and 2 .ini files. Delete both of the .ini files.

You tried this :

http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/1086/

?

xlive.dll isn't the only thing you need to change, to get rid of GFWL, so maybe that's it.

It could be some folder\file ownership error.

Using .ini files with info about hardware\settings, that are now not available, like BlackRampage suggested.

Hard to tell.

Awesome, that seemed to do the trick. I got it running okay, not fantastic but hey, its working. I get the occasional crash when entering / exiting a building but I can live with that, happens to me on Oblivion, too.

Thanks a lot!

Here is a link to my troubleshooting blog. Not much there for FO3 yet, but the general stuff will still apply to it and may improve your game experience in Oblivion as well as FO3.

If you use any of this and have some success - or even if nothing works - please post back here what you did that worked or didn't work. That kind of information can be invaluable to other members having the same or similar problems - And to me in fixing any problems in the blog.
