High Res Texture Pack causing problems?

Hey Guys,

So a little while ago, I found that my Skyrim was getting problems with the textures, mostly things like really pixelated versions of the textures everywhere, and even said textures being able to be seen through walls and floors and such. After some time attempting to find the cause of the problem, I finally un-istalled the game, cleared all the mods I had running on it, and tried it completely Vannila, with the addition of the high resolution texture pack that Bethesda released. It seems, however, that the problem is persisting, and now it even seems to be crashing my game when I try to start a new game. Could the texture pack be causing these issues? And if so, does anyone know of a way to fix it?

Thanks

The official HighRes texture packs are known to cause a lot of instabilities and crashes, so remove that.

As for disappearing/see-through walls... I don't know the exact cause for that but you can usually solve it by uninstalling all mods that have a texture folder or .bsa with them.

And as for pixelated textures, update your drivers to beta versions and set AA to 0 and AF to a maximum of 8.

Alright, complete and utter fail question, but do you know how to remove dlc off of a steam game?

I'm 99.999999% certain you can't. I read somewhere that you can do it in offline mode but I have no idea how that would work. (I've read in a gazillion other places that it's impossible.)

Have you tried the Hi Res DLC Pack Fix? I run the DLC, but have always used the fix mod and never had a problem. I install the Hi Res pack using the instructions in S.T.E.P. found here. (I think the install instructions in STEP might be a bit different than in the mod itself.)

Alternatively, and I think this would work but am not totally certain, you could try just deleting the 2 BSA's and 2 esp's that are D/L'ds into your data folder by the DLC (they're named Hi Res DLC or something, so are easy to spot). I'm pretty sure that'll essentially remove the DLC (i.e. I don't think there's any other files that come with the DLC 'cept the 2 bsa's and 2 esp's) but, if it causes problems, you could always just verify your game cache through steam and it'll reinstall everything that came with the DLC and you'll be back to where you started.

On a side note, if you install the Hi Rez rix ala' STEP (which involves deleting the 2 DLC esp's), you'll have to make sure to delete the 2 High Rez DLC esps everytime you verify game cache 'cuz steam DL's them every time you do that.

go to the file where your Skyrim launcher is located, mine is

C - Program Files(x86) - Steam - Steamapps - Common - Skyrim

and delete the HiResTexturepack 01.bsa , HiResTexturepack 01.esp, HiResTexturepack 02.bsa, HiResTexturepack 02.esp

(I woulld simply remove these and put them in another location on computer in case you decide you want to use them in future without having to spend the 1hr+ redownloading them)
