DonaldtheDark
I've been having issues setting up separate mod staging folders. My goal was to setup a parent folder InstallDrive:\Games\Vortex\ and to then create sub folders for each game. Vortex keeps returning a file busy error and does not allow the creation of the new folder. It appears based on the file path in the error that Vortex is trying to create the game sub folder automatically (like it does for the download folder) but I can confirm that everything is actually being saved in D:\Games\Vortex\. While this isn't critical, having mods installed for different games within the same folder is a bit confusing. Thanks
Grestorn
I guess Vortex is blocking itself. What's did you set as your download directory? Did you set same staging directory for two games?
DonaldtheDark
Download directory is set to F:\Downloads\Vortex and the program is able to create the sub folders automatically (seems to be creating f:\downloads\vortex\{game} which is the same behavior I expected with the modstaging folders)For mod folders I was planning to use C:\Games\Vortex for SSE + F4 and D:\Games\Vortex for Morrowind + Oblivion because of their respective install locations. Each game remembers the folders selected initially and interestingly I can create separate folders (C:\games\f4 and C:\games\sse for example) and it works fine.I feel like I'm missing something here as the \games as a parent folder works fine but \games\vortex causes issues. Grestorn
The setup you want to have looks good. I have never tried to use a pathname with a space, though, like "Vortex for SSE". Also, you have to set a separate modding stage folder for each game individually, so having one for both SSE and F4 wouldn't work. Maybe try a directory name without spaces and make sure you use a different one for each game. Other than the download path, which is shared among all games, the mod staging path is not, it's set individually for each game!
DonaldtheDark
Sorry for the confusion. I am trying to create separate modding folders for each game within the same parent directory. Just trying it over and over and eventually I got it to work but the folders are all messed up.screenshot 1 - setting up Fallout4 first, works exactly as expected.screenshot 2 - I create a folder for skyrim special edition in file explorerscreenshot 3 - path vortex installed mod for skyrimse
Grestorn
Can you give me a screenshot where SkyrimSE is actually installed to? Like the games installation dir? And I cannot reproduce that issue of game folder in gamefolder. That last screenshot is shown if you click on the pathname (below the text entry box)? Did you press "Apply" before you clicked that link?
DonaldtheDark
Oh boy,I just went back and enabled a mod for Fallout 4. It looks like it reverted back to a different install path and this is what the folder looks like now.
DonaldtheDark
I did already click apply (and you can see the "apply" button is grey'ed out in each SS)Here is a screen shot of game install dir:
Grestorn
There's something seriously wrong there. You're not using any junctions, hardlinks etc. to point from one directory to the other? Like pointing from C:\Games to D:\Games? Just asking to make sure... Anyway: Please uninstall all mods for all games (i.e. use the "Remove" button on the mod tab. That's important, so Vortex should no longer have any files in its mod staging. Then close Vortex (important!) Then delete all the modding staging directories created so far, i.e. the whole c:\games\Vortex directory. Then only create the pathC:\Games\Vortex\fallout4 Then start Vortex again and select Fallout 4 (if it's not already active). Then change the ModStaging path to the directory you've just created and Apply Then close Vortex. Check the directory C:\Games\Vortex\fallout4 . It should still be empty! Start Vortex again and check if the setting is sticking. Try to install a mod. See if it's placed in the right directory.
DonaldtheDark
Uninstalled mods in Vortex, completely uninstalled Vortex and then deleted all folders.Created the c:\games\vortex\fallout4, fresh install of Vortex, navigated to mod staging and selected the folder I had just created, clicked apply and this is the error:
