coacheyes
I'm just about done playing, using a destruction/conjuration mage. Man, once you can summon a Dremora Lord and then get the 2 summons perk, the game gets a lot easier. Anyway, I did the College of Winterhold and Companions quests, but not the Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood quests. Since there are a lot of the latter quests, I was wondering what percentage of players do those quests. Does anyone know the popularities of each character type (e.g. 30% of people pick warriors, 25% pick mages, etc)? What about the popularities of each subtype (e.g. 50% of warriors use 2-handed weapons, 30% use a sword and shield, etc)? Finally, what are the frequencies for each questline (e.g. 50% of people do the Companions quests, 25% do the Thieves Guild quests, etc)?
dragonslayer2k12
Yeah would be nice to know that stuff. I wiped out the dark brotherhood right away just did the quest for it without hesitation. Later I found out I missed a lot of good quests with the dark brotherhood:-( I hate the thieves guild I would rather just wipe them all out and clean up riften but that is not how the game works. Need the thieves guild for finishing a major quest that drags on throughout the game. I would like to think that most people don't want to be these things... Thief, cannibal, nightingale weirdo, servant of some bad daedra like botheia bothellia whatever her name is, killer of friends for that ebony blade quest, dark brotherhood assasin. I know I don't want to be these things and the game doesn't recognize the details of when the player is one or more of these things and how it should conflict with interacting with certain npc like maven black briar. She at some point talks to you about being a big part of the thieves guild during a ceremony but her dialogue doesn't change later on when she tells you that she can send the dark brotherhood or the thieves guild after you lol. Things like that are annoying they should have worked on that more. That makes me feel less inclined to do those quests next time around and it breaks immersion too so it changes what I would consider doing again or maybe for the first time later on. So maybe there are some percentages for that stuff too?
Georgiegril
I would like to think that most people don't want to be these things... I am unclear on what difference it makes what other people are doing in a single player roleplay game. If your choices are "more popular" does that justify your decision in taking them? Or less original? Or does it have any bearing at all? I tend to think the latter. It's like wondering how many people are playing with the "adult" mods activated. Maybe not my choice, but how could it possibly affect me? The only way to determine if a particular line of the story is for you is to try it, and then make your decision. Or not try it. It is all good.
Tidus44
One would think that most players play Skyrim more than once and that they change character types just to see the differences that occur in the game. The game can't be fully played in one play through on the PC (don't know about the consoles) and even different play throughs with the same character results in different things happening. I don't deny that some players find some of the game a bit too much for them and they get all squeemish about some parts of it. However, its just a game and it can be a lot of fun to wallow in it sometimes. I found being a cannibal hilariously funny, but to each their own. I just encourage you to not deny yourself the fun the game can provide and do everything and be anything and to try the game in a variety of ways with a variety of characters until you find the game style and character that you like best and not worry about how others play the game or what their character is or does. You might miss out on a lot of fun by denying yourself and trying to play like someone else.

Lord Garon
I have a really hard time finding the "perfect" character to complete all the quests; either they are too weak or they are OP. I've started this game over dozens of times trying to tweak a perfect perk and skill set. My warriors seem to be either tanks or bandit practice dummies. The stealth guys are hard cause there's a point at which they get so "stealthy" there is no challenge left at all. I wanted to play a mage initially but had a hard time keeping one going so I tried a bunch of different types. Warrior types take a lot of perks; melee skills, armor, block, smithing, etc. Same with full-on thieves. I've come back to a mage now and they seem to need the least amount of perks for their primary skill which allows more perks for customizing the character. For about 25 levels, I just took magic and enchanting perks with her and her "fighting" ability is comparable to my best warriors. Now I'm inching up her stealth and alchemy; stealth so we can do some of the Thieves guild quests without generating bounties, alchemy (healing) because she has no armor and no block skill. There's a lot of ambiguity in Skyrim; the politics, the Daedra quests, DB and Thieves guild. I think that also applies to the character types needed to be really successful. My increasingly stealthy mage, or magic using thief, is the most successful (not OP, not a wimp) character I've made so far and she really doesn't fit a common "type". I know that stealth will break her, so I'm SLOWLY taking stealth perks as her stealth skill goes up. Right now she's at level 39 and I have 5 perks saved up. In any case, I think a focused mage/enchanter is the best character choice as they are cheapest to level to a useful point and they leave you the most options in secondary perk selection. Extra perks notwithstanding, Dual Enchanting can overcome a LOT of deficiencies just by itself. (My dual enchanted thief set makes the Guild stuff look like cheap knockoffs.) I hate the questlines that require indiscriminate murder. I don't like the "feel" of it. And there are guards that will arrest me for pickpocketing, trespassing, assault, and murder; murder is "wrong" in the game's larger context. I admit to being a "good guy" and would never want to diminish a game experience for anyone else, but I would really like to experience the additional content of some Skyrim quests without being forced to do something that diminishes the enjoyment for me. Getting out of Cidhna mine was bad enough, the start of the DB quest is just too distasteful for me.
