Badly damaged from mods

So... Here's what happened.

I decided to install a bunch of mods, and I quickly realized that loading any saves after the mod installation point could not be loaded, they were usually corrupted.

I couldn't figure out what to do after I tried a few things, being unable to pinpoint what was causing problems. Using BOSS only seems to get rid of the error message (of save file corruption) and just give me an infinite loading time.

I do have a really really really early save which has few mods installed in it, which I have tried to back up to, but from there I'm not sure what to do. If possible, I want to know how I can salvage my most recent save that isn't corrupted.

Maybe the best thing to do is a clean reinstall, (including the deletion of local content, savegames and anything else that the steam uninstall leaves behind) and then, instead of adding a bunch of mods, and them one at a time, exactly according to the mod authors instructions, running BOSS and then playing to see if it is working properly. More work on the front end saves you a lot of frustration like what you are experiencing now.

I thought about that, but if I wanted to start from where I dropped off, what should I do?

If your earlier save actually works properly, you could try play from there. Run your mods through BOSS to check for load order, etc, and hope for the best. Don't install or uninstall anything without reading the authors readme and following instructions exactly. Disable autosaves if you haven't already. It might work, or you might need to start over. How much time you want to dedicate trying to avoid that is your call, obviously.

Even if my earlier save has a few mods activated?

Your best bet before a re-install is to set up the same mods that the last-working save game was using and remove all others. Use a tool like the 'save game scanner' which will list the mods the save game is expecting. Alternatively, you could try that save game with no mods loaded, it'll moan about objects might be missing but depending on what mods they actually were the save game may or may not work, tho this is not a recommended approach. If you aren't sure you can remove all traces of unused mods from your skyrim folders then go for a re-install then use the save game scanner agianst your save game to add in the requried mods, oh and keep your fingers crossed!

I'm not sure if you need to backup your save games before doing a re-install.
