Skyrim movie help "Force NPC to talk"

As crysthala said, it depends on how much realism you want. While it might technically be possible to get them to speak a line with the console, you're still going to need to use the CK if you want them to speak a line that you've recorded. And even then, they might not lipsync properly. The best way to do it would be to make a quest. You don't have to have them engage you in dialog for them to say the words. Also, if you make a quest it will be much easier to add anything else that you want them to do (have them move to another spot, attack someone, perform an animation, etc.).

Actually, I have a proposition for you. I have been planning to start making Skyrim videos myself. I have very little video editing or recording experience, but I have well over 400 hours of Skyrim modding/scripting experience. Plus, I have quite a bit of experience in writing, even having worked in publishing a couple of times. I've written the script for my first video, but it needs some editing and hasn't been recorded yet.

Would you be willing to work with me? We don't have to both work on the same video at the same time. If you want, we could both run our own separate channels, but help each other out with videos. Or we could work together to create the same videos. You have video editing and recording experience, which I do not have. And I'd really rather not take the time and money to learn it. I have scripting and writing experience. If we worked together, I'm sure we could improve each other's videos, or make great videos together.

What do you think? Are you interested in the concept? I have utterly no problem at all in discussing extensively how we would work together specifically.

Late post I know, but I found this while google searching & wanted to add.

While it was hard to learn at first, using CK is RIDICULOUSLY instrumental in helping with this. Yes, it calls for making a scene, which can easily be done with conjunction to anything else you're doing. I don't really know any other ways besides the CK to achieve NPC's talking. I do not know a method to force NPCs to say something in their idles besides just having a player next them.

If you do not want to use CK, I was able to place my character right next to an npc so that they would initiate idle chat. Did the "tfc" when I was next to them in 1stP, so my character didn't show up. They would then proceed to say their idle chats from time to time a lot more often.

Hope this helps

PS: If you are going the CK route (highly recommend), here is a link on scenes which helps me out tremendoulsy: http://www.creationkit.com/Scene

I seriously recommend just putting your dialogue in as a scene. Then run through it a few times filming from the different angles that you need. You can learn about scenes and setting up dialogue from the wiki, it's fairly simple.

I'd provide a link for you, but the wiki appears to be down right now. Just go to the tutorials and do 'scenes'. It's like the 3rd or 4th one in their quest tutorial section.

There is a "Say" command through console that will make the NPC say something without having to use dialogue menu. I believe your suppose to select the npc then type "Say TopicID". I'm now researching what TopicID is. Though I tried this before and did not work because of invaild Topic ID.
